There is really only one major airport in the area - Syracuse Hancock International Airport. Located just northeast of town, this airport serves the entire Central New York Region. Located right off the highway, this mid-sized airport features easy parking, and within minutes of touching down you can be right on the highway. While many of the gates are unfortunately empty, JetBlue stepeed into the void recently. Also of interesting note is that the Syracuse airport has the world's largest snowplow.
Syracuse is conviently located at the intersection of a few major highways, so getting there by car is especially easy. Hwy 90 - the New York State thruway that cuts through the center of the state - passes right through Syracuse. It's an easy, mindless drive from places like Albany, New York City or Buffalo. Coming from the North or South, highway 81 also passes right through the city. Although there's really not a large population to the North, Binghamton and Scranton PA are on 81 to the South.
Although the two options above are probably the way that 99% of visitors experience Syracuse, there is also Amtrak train service to Buffalo, Albany and New York City.
Finally, Greyhound offers bus service to Syracuse as well.
