Public Buses are inexpensive and a good option to visit local attractions.  San Jose to Turrialba "Directo" buses depart every hour on the hour.  For $2, you can't beat the price. 

Buses from Turrialba to Guayabo, the Serpentarium, and Coffee Tours are possible, get local bus info from your B&B or hotel.  If you are in a group of 3 or 4, sharing a taxi is inexpensive.... No real need for a rental car in Turrialba. 

 Local attractions, tours and events are priced from $6 to $20 per person. 

Free WiFi signal at the Central Park, offered by the City Hall.  A few Bed and Breakfast and Hotels offer free internet and computers, others charge $.

 Lunch and Dinners are inexpensive at local restaurants.   Local Bars and Pubs are open on the weekends until 2:00am; beers cost about $1.50

There is always live music, dances, soccer matches at the town's stadium, theater productions in town on the weekend.  Just ask a local person for weekend events as this information is difficult to find for a visitor. 

Turrialba is the best place in Costa Rica for rafting. Come and enjoy the Pacuare River which is rated in the 10 best rivers in the world for practicing whitewater rafting.

 

Turrialba is surrounded for exquisite rainforest. There is a place called Pejivaye. This is the place where rains everyday, actually is the rainiest place in Costa Rica .

 

This town is very safe. And it is not crowded of tourist yet. Here you can find the Turrialba volcano -the second highest in Costa Rica-, Arqueological National Park Guayabo -with more then three thousand years of history-, CATIE -a great  institution known worldwide- they have a botanical garden where you can find plants of different countries.
