Kottayam is a centre of Kerala State in India. Its called the land of Latex (Rubber), Letters (Literature) and Lakes (Backwaters). Kumarakom is the main Travel attraction in Kottayam. Cruise in the Houseboat is a passion for Tourists to Kumarakom.
Kumarakom has a large variety of hotels from the high end luxury resorts to the small bed-and-breakfast type places. Most of them are clustered in a small area around the Vembanad lake. The word lake is quite misleading actually, as it is a huge water-body formed by the backwaters. Many of the hotels have their own boats and give their guests "sunset cruises" on the lake in the evenings. There isn't much of "action" in Kumarakom. It's a sleepy, laid back kind of place where you can relax, put your feet up, and forget about the rest of the world. It's also one of the most romantic places in Kerala.
