The rumours about Bratislava taxi drivers are true. AVOID taking any taxi parked on the street or passing in the street. Taxis are unregulated and they can charge whatever they want. Don't be misled by "it's all on the meter" - they have all been fixed with a "foreigner button" to charge exorbitant fares.
It's not unusual to be scammed for 5-6 times a regular fare.
Get your hotel to order all your taxis. Call ahead when you arrive at the bus or rail stations to ask the hotel to order you a cab.
If you do get scammed, the police will be friendly - but it's all at your risk, you got in the cab, you took the journey, you have to pay.
