I heard about here by chance while in a shop in Athlone as an option to entertain a 2 year old, and I was so pleasantly surprised at how great it is, for all ages, how have I never heard of here before!! The heritage cottages/huts are brilliantly replicated with full access so you can roam around inside, with plenty of information as you follow the trail. You can get a little bag of animal feed to give chickens/goats/donkeys etc. Old machinery and memories of times gone by for older generation, fairy garden and hideaways for younger, a fantastic playground with LOADS of green space for playing. Will definitely be recommending here to friends and family as a day out!!
This totally exceeded my expectations. Our AirBandB host told us about this place but didn’t describe it well. We first walked around the free park area and then went into the Heritage Park. Lovely, fun and informative displays and exhibits ranging from historical to folklore and everything in between. The lady at the ticket desk was lovely and friendly, and the cafe is beautiful with great staff. Definitely a hidden gem and well worth visiting.
Excellent informative heritage park. Great facilities and service by staff. We enjoyed what could be the cheapest family day out in Ireland.
Came here from loughrea during the summer holidays to pass a few hrs! We got a lovely day, nice walk not to long, lovely monument s, great park , lovely coffee shop, desserts were fab. Def would return.
This was a real surprise, a hidden gem in many ways. We cycled the Old Rail Trail from Castletown to Moate and dropped in to this lovely park for a bite to eat.
It has a really lovely cafe with a patio and outdoor seating to eat at. Its lovely inside as well.
The park is really well kept with lots for kids to do. It has a playground, interesting statuary and even a ring fort.
A really pretty place out in the countryside. Well worth a visit.
Lovely spot with a fabulous cafe serving teas coffees snacks and lunches. Located a very short distance (5mins) from the greenway so ideal for a stop off between Athlone and Mullingar. Wish I'd had more time to explore the park itself as the lake and artwork is worth seeing.
