Five-course spectacular dinner with wonderful service and a lovely setting for approximately $35-40 euros. Highly recommend this restaurant! The food was flavorful and interesting! A delightfully memorable meal!

My wife and I recently had dinner at La Forchetta.....from the outside it is very simple looking but the inside is a nice size but very intimate. Great lighting, great feel. Given it was early in the season and we were there early (730) we were the only ones there but it would get full by 9PM. First the service was excellent.....there was a language gap but instead of fighting through it the Sun chef came and talked to us in detail about the menu and his suggestions. He was wonderful....very accurate, funny and engaging. The wine list was also exceptional with options from all over Italy. The house provided start was veal and I thought it was excellent (my wife does not eat meat or veal so she was a bit surprised by the choice). Our appetizers and our mains were both excellent. A great mix of local and traditional but brought forward with creative thinking and cooking. Very well done. The Sous chef made the desserts and they were spectacular.....he has a huge future ahead of him if the two options we had were any indication. Overall a wonderful evening. We will go back! One thing to note.....their website implies they are only open for dinner on Saturday night......I called hoping they were open for dinner on a Thursday and they were.....so call!

Arriving at Perugia airport at lunchtime, we thought we’d stop somewhere on the way to the city for something to eat. La Forchetta was chosen because mostly because the location was practical, and we were not expecting the superb welcome or food! For our first meal after arriving in the country, it’s hard to think of what could have been better: a very warm welcome, a choice of superb wines by the glass, and exceptional food (each of our questions about the menu answered in English). We left very full and very satisfied, and would definitely visit again.

We were here for Sunday lunch, an important part of an Italian week. It was our first visit based on a review we read in a Perugia magazine. We were four and all opted to try out the tasting menu at 40€ a person. This included four courses plus dessert. The little town of Ponte San Giovanni is to the side of the main north/south highway through Umbria famous for its old covered bridge. The room is bright and sunny with very high ceilings partly divided by a high brick arch. The two people serving us were perfect. Friendly, helpful and the pacing was perfect. We had from first course to last: Bacala mousse with fried polenta and carmelized tomato coulis, scallops with fried "hats" and mashed potato which had some spice, gnocchi over broccoli purée, with mussels and bits of steamed broccoli, marinated trout served like a Picasso painting with schmears of puréed red cabbage, something orange and dots of green and olive oil. Oh and crunchy fried spinach. Finally there were five desserts and two got the chocolate one, kind of like flourless cake, and two got pears poached in red wine surrounded by chantilly cream and drizzled with chocolate syrup. Divine. And all of the presentations were beautiful. It was a surprise in such a small little village and well worth a special trip.
