This is a five star hotel! The rooms are great, staff is great and the food is awesome. Add to that the cloud forest and you feel like you are in another world. The hotel also offers tours and if you book on thru the hotel ask for Jason as your guide. We did the night tour with hime and the Hanging Bridges tour in Selavatura Park -- he found was very informative and spotted lots of wildlife and birds! We hated to leave this area!

My husband and I just stayed here for 3 nights during our honeymoon. The hotel itself is really beautiful and is situated atop a steep hill with views of the peninsula on one side and the cloud forest on the other. We stayed in a forest room and I would suggest that anyone staying here in the rainy season do the same as the view of the peninsula is entirely covered by clouds this time of year. Our room was on the third floor and even though the hotel has no a/c the evenings get quite chilly and the rooms have a ceiling fan so we were never too warm. The room we got supposedly had a King bed, and while it did appear to be a King at first glance, I genuinely think it was a Queen bed turned the other way. My husband and I are both of average height and our feet hung off the bed when laying down. Although our room was beautiful, it could have been cleaner. The bathroom had numerous hairs that were not ours and the floors were never really spotless though they were not filthy either. The staff were all very friendly and helpful if you are looking for tours or places to eat in town. The one thing I was disappointed with was the hotel restaurant. I am vegan and the food was terrible and overpriced especially considering what you can get in town. That said, my husband eats meat and he enjoyed both of his meals, though he agreed they were way overpriced. I would say that unless you have to eat at the hotel, do yourself a favour and walk the 15 minutes to town and eat at Fussion restaurant and Sabor Tico, both of which had the best food we have had in Costa Rica. Overall, the hotel was probably the nicest in the area but there were a few things that could have been improved.

Extra Notes: hotel had free yoga daily; hotel had a really nice jacuzzi hot tub but no pool; forest rooms are in a separate building across from the main lobby/peninsula rooms

Room tip: Forest rooms are in a separate building but have the nicest view

This was our 2nd hotel in our journey through Costa Rica. It was our anniversary trip so we splurged on the sunset room which had a nice big balcony and windows in about 60% of the room. It was nice, but the "hot tub" in the room was basically unusable. It's a large bath tub with jets and we tried using it, but after the water was running for 30 minutes and the tub was only 10% full, we decided to forget about it. The water pressure was very low. Small detail, but we paid extra for a feature we couldn't even use.The staff are all very friendly and the service was very good. The bar tender was nice and the drinks are interesting. We did the farm tour and I loved it! Horseback riding through the hills was really cool. We also got to see how the cheese in the farm which is used at the hotel was made. The views from our room and the restaurant are awesome.

This hotel is beautiful with the added benefit of being an ecolodges. The fresh food from their gardens and home brewed beer is amazing in the restaurant. We had excellent service and were very relaxed by the time we left. Thank you Hotel Belmar!!

Best restaurant in the town....breakfast especially! The Caribbean French toast was amazing! Service was great, we also got a 75 minute massage that was fantastic as well. Lots of birds and wildlife, the walk by the river is picturesque, and the service is top notch. It would have been nice to have an option for AC, even though the temperatures didn’t require it, but you cant sleep in if the windows are open as the birds are very loud and there is traffic on the road early in the morning. Unfortunately, we also had a VERY loud neighbor above us with children who were moving furniture until 11 PM and again at 5 AM....they stomped when they walked and the noise deadening construction in the building is nonexistent. The bird watching is great and we got TONS of good pictures and overall we enjoyed our time there. We would definitely stay again but get a room on the TOP FLOOR if you can.
