We arrived on Easter Sunday it was very quiet we were unsure where to park but found a small car park near the castle. We were a little underwhelmed as there seemed to be no one around. But we found the shop and bought a ticket for the English guided tour. I am so glad we did then Alex was a brilliant source of information. We really enjoyed his tour and the viewing of the attic and the place they built the glider. Thank you very much for a full packed hour of information.

Excellent extended tour in English by Steffi, the only negative about the visit was it took a bit of time to find car parking. There was a wedding about to start at the castle so might have been unlucky. It brought back my youth watching the BBC series back in the '70's.

We travelled here by chance, whilst staying in Leipzig.
This is a great town and the square is picturesque and everything you would expect in an old German castle town.
The castle itself dominates the town skyline and the views of the surrounding from the castle are stunning.
There is a beutiful feel to the castle - helped by the wedding that was happening in the keep.
But the very informative museuem provides a reminder of the darker days of war and the real reason castles were built. The memorial to the metally ill and disbled, murdered there as part of the nazi exterminations, is harrowing, uncormfortable, but serves as a necessary reminder that this should never happen again.
There is a small gift shop and a coffee machine, but on the whole this is a place of remembrance not a place trying to grab all your money - a nice change in this world.

If you want to go to colditz castle i recommend that you catch the bus Leipzig you come into the town and see the castle on the hill colditz town is nice to look around with some nice cafe and ice cream parlours just a warning if you are getting on s bit it's a steep walk up to the castle so leave yourself plenty of time to walk up when you get there the staff are friendly and helpful and it's well worth booking a tour before you go and the museum is well worth a look full of Pow escape equipment so i do recommend a visit if you are interested in history
