Ashpoles is a great spot for some refreshment whilst in Sharnbrook. We sat in the garden as it was a lovely sunny day, but inside would be cosy on a cold day. Tea served in proper china cups, with a tea cosy to keep the tea warm. Good selection of home baked cakes, lunch selection looked good too.

Ashpoles is a sweet little tea shop in the village of Sharnbrook in north Bedfordshire, very close to the Northants border. We live in the village and have visited a few times for a light lunch. It is delightful and well a trip out. Cyclists might note that you can also keep an eye on your bike whilst you enjoy your well earned cake!

The tea room is located in the High Street through an arched entrance of laurel bush and wow, what a pretty thatched cottage - just like something from a chocolate box. You have the option of sitting outside in the garden or inside; we opted for inside. Their is a lovely atmosphere and the service is personal and relaxed. The menu is good, my friend had a light lunch which she said was lovely and I opted for the tea cake which was moist and tasty. We have been so taken with this tea room that we have told friends and family about it.

We called into this tearoom last Sunday while out for a walk/cycle, 2 adults and a 6 year old. It was about 20 minutes before they closed so their selection was a bit depleted, but there were still some lovely treats to choose from. We had a slice of orange and almond cake, a meringue (2 quite large pieces sandwiched with a large dollop of cream and garnished with strawberry), and a slice of rocky road. Everything was presented nicely, they have very pretty china. Tea was loose leaf and nicely served in a china pot with cosy, and strainer for the leaves. Coffee was good also. Cake moist and tasty, meringue as it should be and rocky road very full of bits - pistachios, dried fruit, biscuit, marshmallow etc. In fact it defeated the 6 year old, and she couldn't finish it. We took it with us and she polished it off later! We sat in the garden, and it is a really charming peaceful space. There is a swing in a willow tree which 6 yr old loved (it was the swing that prompted her comment above!). Because it was closing time the resident dog was allowed out which also delighted her. It is a dog friendly cafe, with water and bonios laid on! Service pleasant and welcoming.
We were just there for drinks and cake, but they do have breakfast and lunch food on the menu, light meals like sandwiches and salads, porridge and bacon rolls. Based on our experience of the cakes and drinks we would happily return to have lunch there, or recommend the cafe to others.
Our bill came to about £13 for the 3 cakes and tea, coffee and apple juice.
They do take card payments on orders over £5, which pleasantly surprised me, as not all small businesses do.

This place is a lovely relaxed oasis that has on offer many types of home made cake and my favourite home made scones.
It offers breakfast and light lunches too.
The couple running it are lovely attentive and chatty.
Inside is gorgeous and cosy in the winters.
If you like it home baked - this is the place for you.
