Great cafe with amazing Japanese food. A little out of the way if you are visiting Byron Bay (approx 30 minutes) however it is well worth the journey. The food was absolutely delicious. We shared 3 dishes. The beef sushi and sweet potato tempura sushi both were delicious. The flavours a little unusual but the sweetness of the beef played off the balance of the rice. The salmon sashimi was great - the salmon wonderful and light. The chicken teriyaki was wonderful - the subtle sweetness playing well against the texture of the salad that accompanies it. I will say the servings are small and we would have been better ordering extra sushi in place of the salmon as between 2 of us we were both hungry two hours later.

A beautiful warm sunny day saw us drive through the Byron hinterland to the tiny village of Federal for lunch at Doma Cafe. A restaurant very much in tune with its surrounds, earthy, fresh and simple. The coffee was lovely very creamy, we were delighted with our lunch, the roasted eggplant salad was just yummy, lots of different flavours, the sushi cones were also a hit. Service friendly, cards accepted. Noticed that dogs on a leash are welcome. For a Monday it was quite busy with no spare tables, of a weekend it must be well and truely packed. A great spot we will return.

This place is amazing - really - they are the loveliest people - sell the freshest food - have the most laid back relaxed atmosphere - have the tastiest food - not expensive - and there is something for everyone on their exquisite menu - its always very busy - a local secret hangout - but if you are in Byron for the day it is an absolute must!! Plus the drive to get there is gorgeous as well!

I really like this place for brunch or breakfast. It is a little drive from the coast but worth it. There is a friendly welcoming feel to the place and loads of tables in the garden where you can meet up with friends. The quality of the food is excellence (there is a Japanese influence) - but not the coffee. I really did not like being served coffee in paper cups. Apart from the obvious objections such as the land fill they are creating - if you enjoy coffee you know that paper cups impact on the taste. This is not a cheap place so paper cups are unacceptable. I am going to take my own cup in future.

If you go at the right time there is often music and this adds to the holiday feel you get when you stop by for brunch/lunch.

Would I recommend it for breakfast? Absolutely! The breakfasts are huge ( we often share a breakfast and the food is healthy and well cooked.

Friendly, delicious fresh food, busy, but because it's so good. Not expensive. Pleasant outdoor or under cover seating. Has a variety of live music acts on weekends too, really great to see a cafe supporting live music.
