El Caballo Resort was a very 'special' place to visit when I was a child. I can still remember the grand buildings and the magnificent horses and spectacular shows and performances, coupled with beautiful grounds and surroundings. I am now 59 and looked eagerly to a Christmas function held at the resort to rekindle old memories. NOT!! Whilst we intended to stay at the hotel for the night, one walk around the hotel area quickly made us change our mind. As we walked towards the rooms, we were greeted by very dirty carpet, dirty windows, a musty smell and general shabby conditions. It does not leave a very good impression when one sees a hole in a door , about 'fist' height, as you walk down the corridor . In fairness, the pool area looked refreshing and clean and the entrance was pretty impressive, this was not enough for me to choose to stay the night.

Out dated. Grounds were well below average. Room was musty but warm. Comfy bed. Front staff were uptight. One of the breakfast ladies was awesome the other very sour. Nope I would never go back or recommend.

We went here for a two night stay on a Scoopon. We got 2 nights accomodation, $30 off a dinner, cooked breakfast for two both days and a bottle of Gossips $4 wine in our room.
The hotel was probably magnificent in the 70's but it is run down and not as clean and tidy as it should be. The carpets need replacing, they are well past their use by date. The place needs a dust and clean and the gardens need tending to.
The staff for the most part try their best, Friday nights food and staff were great.
The staff Saturday night were overwhelmed there was only one front of house staff for the night and the cook was taking a long time to make the food. We were in the restaurant for 90 minutes and o lay got one drink, it took an hour for our foot to come and when it came the chips were not gluten free and they were labelled gluten free on the menu.
Maybe in summer the pool and spa would be good but it wouldn't change the slow service or dirty dated building. I would not recommend going there.

We recently stayed here for two nights, and we did enjoy it. The staff were very friendly and sorted out our "no hot water" situation on the first night very efficiently and compensated us with a nice bottle of wine at dinner on the second night. The rooms have not updated since reopening, however, they are very comfortable and warm. The food was awesome. Had the steak with creamy garlic sauce both nights. The resort was on the cold side, so make sure you wear warm clothes, even to the restaurant. They have a Tapas Bar which opens every Saturday between 2-5pm with live music. Definitely recommend going here. It was great. Would definitely come back to stay.

Room Tip: Choose the Spa Room for a bit of Romance

Spent two nights here and it was lovely. The dinner on Friday night was excellent creamy garlic prawns for entree and a very big sirloin steak for main course. Staff where very friendly and the serves very big. The tapas and music afternoon on Saturday was so relaxing and very enjoyable. The rooms and the resort is old but very clean the rooms are very big the bathroom is a really good size. The staff are so welcoming and friendly. Can't wait to go back
