We have just returned from and 11 day trip of Morotai, Halmahera, Ternate and Tidore and our experience with this company was simply fabulous.
Fatmawaty organised everything according to our wishes. On top of that, when our luggage went missing in Manado and failed to show up in Morotai as promised by Silk Air, she was the the one tracking it down and making sure it was waiting for us a few days later in our room in Ternate. So full marks for the practical part.
But that's just the beginning of the story: Azis, our guide was tireless in making things just right for us and extremely flexible, making sure we (and our 5-year old child) were comfortable at all times. This is not as easy as it sounds: the tourist infrastructure on the islands - and particularly on those outside Ternate - remains limited.
What you get in exchange is the trip of a lifetime: stunning beaches, beautiful nature, a fait bit of history, and the chance to experience a simpler, gentler way of life.
Just as importantly, this is a place where you as a traveller/foreigner/tourist remain a rarity and feel warmly welcomed by all - even though most people have nothing to sell you.
On the whole, we absolutely loved the North Moluccas and their people.
And the way we felt taken care of by Fatmawaty and Azis had a lot to do with it.
By the end of the trip, both were like friends to us.
We got to meet their families and to get a further insight into their lives and those of the ordinary people of these beautiful, forgotten islands.
We'd very much recommend the North Moluccas as a travel destination.
And if you do choose to go, don't hesitate to get in touch with Fatmawaty - she'll do her very best to make you love her island and to make sure your time there will be an unforgettable experience.
We wish her and Azis all the best!
First of all, Maluku is hidden gem in Indonesia. Tourist have not yet finded this beautiful and exotic place, so i really recommend you to book a guide if you don't speak Bahasa. Because there are only few international tourists you will have a big headache if you will try to organize everything yourself. I think that North Maluku tour and travel is only company with English speaking services in the area.
We did 5 days / 4 nights tour and everything was beyond our expectations. Fatmawaty and her crew went extra mile to give us warm welcome, always making sure that we were happy and even making quick changes if we had some problems. (Road was too muddy for car so they rented scooters from local boys that we can get to National park)
We did city tour in Ternate, jungle trekking in Halmahera and beach leisure in Morotai. Fatmawaty was very flexible with our itienary although i did last minute changes. Everything was tailor made for us. We were very happy about booked hotels (included in tour.) They were very good and actually the best ones in the area, but you have to understood where you are, you cannot expect 5 star Hilton resort in Maluku :)
Usually we don't make two trips to same location. After 20 years of travelling i think that Maluku could be a first exception. We are already talking that we have to go back to Maluku... and Fatmawaty and Azis is first one i call then!
