We stayed in the hotel over Christmas. We were very happy with the hotel, room and the spa but had mixed feelings about the service in the restaurant.
The hotel is beautiful, reconstructed in Art-deco. It is tastefully decorated. We liked it a lot. The receptionist who welcomed us was very nice. She explained everything very well. The porter likewise, very friendly and showed us around.
We had a studio which was spacious. The white bathroom was very clean. A small decorated Christmas tree with a small present ready in the room at our arrival were a very nice touch.
The bed was probably too hard for my taste but not a big deal :-)
The spa is impeccable and was the highlight of the stay. Everything clean, new and cosy. The staff in the spa was very nice and helpful. We took a Christmas package so we had a number of treatments included in price. It was a nice surprise that the planning of treatments was ready at our arrival and that the balneo reception tried to organise everything so that we could take treatments at the same time, to the extent possible. It was our first holiday of this kind and we enjoyed it very much.
There was also a small gym, rather well equipped. Maybe it would be also useful if there were small towels at disposal to the guests in the gym.
The only downside of the hotel was the restaurant Sissi. We really wanted to like it but... We had a feeling that the management was trying to save money...As some pointed in the previous reviews, the breakfast was not really 5*, more variety and options on pastry and bread would be really welcomed. We understand that it was Christmas and shops were closed but a few pieces of Christmas cookies and croissant like rolls are not enough. It is also the first time ever I have experienced in a 5* hotel that only espresso is included in the breakfast buffet and that you have to pay extra for a cappuccino .... small thing but ...And it is not ok for a 5* hotel to serve old pretzel rolls although it was put in the oven on the day to make it crispy again...
The dinners were served as menu only. We had a choice from 3 meals on 23 December but one and only menu was served during the rest of the stay. The food was good though and the staff accommodated our wish to order a different meal for our child on the Christmas Day. I only regret that one and the same beetroot soup (really?) was served twice during our 4 day stay ... More variety would be pertinent and maybe for future, a choice from at least 2 menus would be nice...
And then comes the service in the restaurant Sissy which is definitely far from 5*... The staff was friendly (in particular the waitress with long black hair was amazing and very helpful) and tried probably its best, but lacked attentiveness and rapidity. Not sure what the problem was. At the breakfast, one day nobody even bothered to get our orders and take away dirty plates... At dinners, it took ages before somebody noticed that guests arrived and probably would like to order beverages... and after we ordered, nobody came later to ask if we wanted to order something more...Such a pity.
We also used the aqua-park which was rather ok. It is small (only two slides in winter) but was fun to go for an hour or so.
All in all we recommend the hotel and spa but the restaurant management should be improved to correspond to the level it aspires to.
