The church is a votif-church , i.e. There is a sailship hanging from the seelling , to the memory of the drowned sailors through out the time. Otherwise the church is worth visiting with respect to the cosy atmosphere.
The churchyard is beautiful, covered with trees. The smell of the old wood is strong as you walk past the large wooden door with a sign telling you to “pull the door with strength.” I got a peek inside far enough to notice that i was about to walk in on a wedding. It was beautiful and everything looks to be made of 300 year old wood. Wished I could have walked inside a bit more.
Very nicely kept old wooden church from year 1700. A must see if you visit Kristiinankaupunki. Interesting indoors; remember to check the balcony seating area too.
Love everything about the church.
Starts from the outer side, it's very pretty, it took my mind back to the medieval time where the community used to visit church on Sunday. The open space before the church building gave that old day sensation, along with the small step from the road (I'm a bit daydreaming of becoming a medieval princess who visit the place).
Getting inside the front yard, you will be welcomed by old cemetery of the community in the old days. Only important people buried here most likely.
Continue to the building, you will be surprised by the old system they use to keep the door locked. There's a hanging stone which connected to the door to keep the door locked.
Step inside the church and you will find a two storey sitting arrangement. The one downstairs are very medieval with lock boxes. I wonder if it's designed for important families in the olden days.
Nowadays they're building new church not far from the old church.
Beautiful old church. Small but really well preserved from the year 1700. Gives you a serene feeling standing in the room.
It's only open in the summer.
It is very beautiful church but it's small. It's open in summer. There are some rich peoples mausoleums(?) on the yard.
