My wife and I booked the old mill through booking .com back in mid January 2018 for a two night stay at Easter we had booked a twin room for two nights and the booking was confirmed shortly after @ £60 per night but 24hrs before arrival the owners contacted us direct to say they had over booked and the room was no longer available. We were offered a family room for one night but would have to move to two singles on the second night at no extra charge, at such short notice we were left with no Choice but to except.
On arrival the old mill looks quite idyllic located along a lane a short drive form Alsager on the road to Crewe, it boasts a very quiet location opposite a large duck pond so looks a very peaceful place to stay and unwind.
At check-in we were totally ignored for 10 mins so made our way to the bar, where the land lady barged past us shouting to a lad behind the bar she had no time for us and that he would have to sort us out (Very unprofessional) the lad checked us in and said he would first show us the room we were to stay in on the second night night which was in fact a single room with a 4'6" bed forced into it and the door could not even be opened fully.
He explained the twin room opposite that we had booked had been smashed up a few day before and we witnessed the door lying on the floor and the frame destroyed.
We were then showed the family room, room 7 that would be our room on the first night that room and although well decorated had many defects, the floor on the left hand side of the double bed was in a very bad condition and sinking under foot , bed valences where ripped , the bath Parnell split , all horizontal surfaces thick with dust , and the room smelled of dogs , with dog hair evedent on the carpet .
We immediately returned to reception and cancelled our second night and a meal for five that was arranged for family but would stay for one night only and check out next day.
After what was to be a very poor nights sleep in a very smelly creaky room the breakfast between 7-8 am wasent much better no choice just a full English with two slices of toast thrown on the top ,sure that better could have been had in a transport cafe, then at checkout they tried to charge us £123 for someone else's tab.
Having stayed in many B and B and guest houses the old mill must be by far the worst we have ever encountered which is such a shame because in the right hands with staff that knew what they where doing it could be a little diamond , but if it continues as it is then in my opinion it will soon be time to order up the plyboard.

Room Tip: Try the Holly trees just up the road.

The service at this place is terrible.

We booked under the Groupon deal do never been before

When we got seated, we waited 20 mins for even being asked for a drink or given menus , in fact we had to ask . Same waiter that sat us , walked past us several times as we were twiddling our thumbs.

Then we were told , we could have a steak as part of the deal , we questioned this as it was on the offer , turns out we were given the wrong menu even though we told him when being seated

Waited for around 40 minutes for the main meal to come out (didn’t have a starter)

One of the meals was a mushroom stroganoff, which came out without the rice and chips , and had to ask 5 minutes later for them , to which the waiter said he had forgot . So it was basically mushrooms in a sauce , nothing else .

Steak was very fatty and not the correct cook, was rare-medium in parts when asked for medium to well done

Asked for desert menu , again the waiter forgot and brought it out ten mins later .

Well all had cheese cake which tasted like moose and we all left it

We then had to move our plates from our table to an empty table as they were just left for ages.

They don’t even have a drinks menu!!

We heard other tables complaining to.

Crazy as it wasn’t even busy .

Will never ever return ,, as I assume they tried to Increase customers hence the groupon deal , as it turns out they will lose many. We certainly won’t return and word of mouth also counts for plenty!

Food was good. Great shame it was let down by poor service. We went on Groupon and had a long wait before anyone took our order, we had to ask for our wine which came when we had finished our first course and there was a further long wait for the desert.

Stayed at an unfortunate time as the kitchen was closed for the two days I was there. Room stank so had to be moved straight away, but then the room I moved into didn't have a working shower. It did however have two very used cotton buds in the bin to greet me.

People working there were nice but this only goes so far. Would never recommend staying there. As for the food we wouldn't know but was looking forward to some home cooked food.

Nice traditional type pub down a lane with a duck pond and a farm shop opportunity opposite. Music a bit loud for me. Good pub efood plentiful and reasonable, not a great choice of vegetarian. Service good. Didn't stay overnight so can't comment of hotel side of things
