Lovely place, Nice Osen, Fantastic welcome dinner.

The location might be a little far from the center and may hear the far JR train pass by in the night, but the facilities and accommodations are excellent. Plus, the near by local liquor store have an outstanding Sake!

If you’re keen on onsen, visit Gero, otherwise there’s not a lot to do and unfortunately this hotel fits in with the rest of the town - run down and tired.

We stayed for three days in a shabby Japanese-style room with stained chairs/walls, beaten up furniture, and a tired bathroom. It was the most expensive hotel we stayed at in Japan and we were disappointed with both it and the town itself.

On the positive side, the room was large and the staff were attentive. The food was also meticulously prepared and very traditional. However, English is spoken at the front desk but not in the restaurant so be prepared to eat blind unless you’re fluent!

I think there are better options if you want to stay in Gero, but ultimately I would recommend staying elsewhere if you want to experience something more traditional.

Gifu is a quiet pleasant town. We had a room for 6 with futons with a river view on the top floor. It is an old hotel but it is acceptable. Dinner and Breakfast are 10 course meals, hosted in a separate room for 6 of us. Onsen is very good with a big BIG Bathroom. I would return!

Bought the Gero onsen pass at the tourist info. and this is one of the recommended onsen.

The facility is clean, well spread out, quiet and has an outdoor onsen. Privacy is well set up so you get peace of mind even in outdoor.

Will definitely come back again, onsen water is beautiful and smells nice.

Tips: onsen pass is 1300 Yen per adult, can use for 3 onsens in the list, valid for 6 months. Perfect for day trip or onsen enthusiasts.
