We slept in this hotel in May, in an warm weekend.
The access to the hotel is difficult, a steep descent in a dirt track.
But as soon as the descent ends, there comes a wonderful view of the river!!!
It is a very beautiful and peaceful location.
The receptionist did not excel in sympathy, but once we got to the room we were faced with a very large room, with ample kitchenette, a nice room with a huge double bed, and above all a large balcony directly over the river. Beautiful!
Some things in our house could be improved, and with little expense for the owner (certain paintings, cracks), but overall everything was very satisfactory, including the kitchenette that was fully equipped.
A negative point has to do with low water pressure, even in times of low use.
The surrounding area is very beautiful and deserves a walk. The view from the pool is beautiful! Canoeing, free of charge, was special!
The surrounding city of Vila Nova de Milfontes is beautiful, with astonishing views to the river and to the ocean. There are excellent and cheap restaurants.
They didn't charge anything for an extra child bed.

In short:

Cons:
- Low water pressure

Pros:
+ Magnificent views from the house and throughout the resort
+ Huge house (with cable/satellite tv and wifi)
+ Fully equipped kitchenette
+ Free canoe ride
+ Cheap meals in town
+ Cheap accommodation
+ Free child bed

Room tip: Each room is good! Each room has amazing views!

The view is really breathtaking. It sure is. But it only makes us wonder why the hell the owners do not cherish this spot as it should be.

Didn't have someone to receive us, had to call 2/3 times. The whole facilities are old and in need of serious intervention. The bathroom wasn't very clean. It felt like they were being sloppy about the place.

The hotel is ideally located in a very quiet place, at the end of an unpaved road, with a tremendous view on the river. If I could quote 6 stars for the location I sould do it.
Our room was in fact a small studio with kitchen and a terrace. Everything was clean and well maintained.
You have there everything for a perfect stay. You have also a nautic base for sports like kayak.
However the way we were welcomed was...cold let's say. Some poeple make you feel home, some others can stress you in seconds and unfortunately we had the second one.
We loved the place but decided not to extend our stay.

Perfect place for a peaceful and relaxing three day stay, late October but weather was sunny and mostly around 26 C. Canoes can be taken on the river (with care because the tidal currents are strong). Beaches within an easy drive. Staff very welcoming and obliging. Highly recommended!

A relative had told us this Moinho is a must if you wish to stay a night or more in the Vila Nova de Milfontes area. She is totally right!!!
Access isn't so easy as the owners prefer to keep the unsealed road as it is to preserve the estate privacy.
On the main road coming from the centre of town, don't take the unsealed road your GPS will probably indicate but take the next one with a wooden plate on which Moinho da Asneira is written. Drive VERY slowly downhill.
The large estate was originally designed by a Brit. Thus, very nice gardens.
The Dutch couple who bought it about thirty years ago has been developing it but keeping the same original charm and refinement.
On the site there are many small to very small independent houses, practically all invisible from one another. Those called Belvedere and the ones on the top of the hill have the most beautiful view.
This place being situated on the estuary of the Mira river, the water you see is salty. Accordingly, the tides have a huge effect on the landscape. It is spectacular to watch the evolution of the panorama.
I strongly recommend that you go for a walk all around the property at dawn. I was lucky enough to see the estuary covered with mist. Nature revealed itself progressively. Magic ! Please see the attached photo.
Our house was fairly large and modern, with a bedroom, a bathroom, a kitchen and a living room.
All clean and neat.
At the owners' house level, there is a swimming pool and a large terrace all guests may use.
We intended to have dinner at a restaurant in town but decided to cancel our booking and buy some local cheese, ham, bread and wine to prepare a cold dinner and have it on the terrace enjoying the magnificent view. A perfect moment of serenity in front of a breathtaking landscape.
The night was less calm as there were many mosquiitoes that also liked to share our house. We fought them all night.
Recommendation : if you stay overnight in this place, buy an insect spray and kill those mosquitoes before going to bed.
As we only stayed for one night, we didn't bother to buy all we would need to prepare breakfast. We opted for that extra. It only costs 5 euro per person and is very nice. Fresh orange juice, farm eggs cooked a la minute at your taste, delicious bread, house jam, etc. A bargain!
Our timetable didn't allow us to stay longer but we were sorry as this place is fabulous.
