A relative had told us this Moinho is a must if you wish to stay a night or more in the Vila Nova de Milfontes area. She is totally right!!!
Access isn't so easy as the owners prefer to keep the unsealed road as it is to preserve the estate privacy.
On the main road coming from the centre of town, don't take the unsealed road your GPS will probably indicate but take the next one with a wooden plate on which Moinho da Asneira is written. Drive VERY slowly downhill.
The large estate was originally designed by a Brit. Thus, very nice gardens.
The Dutch couple who bought it about thirty years ago has been developing it but keeping the same original charm and refinement.
On the site there are many small to very small independent houses, practically all invisible from one another. Those called Belvedere and the ones on the top of the hill have the most beautiful view.
This place being situated on the estuary of the Mira river, the water you see is salty. Accordingly, the tides have a huge effect on the landscape. It is spectacular to watch the evolution of the panorama.
I strongly recommend that you go for a walk all around the property at dawn. I was lucky enough to see the estuary covered with mist. Nature revealed itself progressively. Magic ! Please see the attached photo.
Our house was fairly large and modern, with a bedroom, a bathroom, a kitchen and a living room.
All clean and neat.
At the owners' house level, there is a swimming pool and a large terrace all guests may use.
We intended to have dinner at a restaurant in town but decided to cancel our booking and buy some local cheese, ham, bread and wine to prepare a cold dinner and have it on the terrace enjoying the magnificent view. A perfect moment of serenity in front of a breathtaking landscape.
The night was less calm as there were many mosquiitoes that also liked to share our house. We fought them all night.
Recommendation : if you stay overnight in this place, buy an insect spray and kill those mosquitoes before going to bed.
As we only stayed for one night, we didn't bother to buy all we would need to prepare breakfast. We opted for that extra. It only costs 5 euro per person and is very nice. Fresh orange juice, farm eggs cooked a la minute at your taste, delicious bread, house jam, etc. A bargain!
Our timetable didn't allow us to stay longer but we were sorry as this place is fabulous.
