We had a great holiday experience staying at this hotel. Rooms are cosy warm with an attached wet room. Food was brilliant and they catered for our gluten free friend very well. Wine and other alcohol was very reasonably priced and free tea, coffee and hot chocolate was available all day and evening. The equipment we were loaned for all our experiences was first class, very high quality and clean. You really don't need to bring anything.

Room tip: All the rooms have nice views. No lift so book ground floor (floor 1) room if you don't like to climb.

We are 2 couples who came to Harriniva Wilderness Hotel for a week of Aurora Borealis hunting at the beginning of February 2020. The trip was booked and organized through Responsible Travel in the UK who are very very efficient. The package includes a number of nighttime activities all designed to maximize the chances of actually getting to see it in all its glory. We were not so lucky in that respect as the weather and solar activity did not play along but...everything else is delightful. From the pickup at the Kittila airport to the check in to the amazing food, friendly and knowledgeable staff, the equipment quality and organization, the well planned activities, it was all a joy.
Coming back to food, it was way beyond our expectations given the remoteness of the area and time of year. The variety, quality, quantity and service were just fantastic, breakfast lunch and dinner. Imagine, grapes and Kiwi fruit in mid February in north Finland.
The rooms are big cosy and warm and they have to be given the amount of winter gear one has to have when temperatures can drop to -25C.
In summary, if you are looking for a winter adventure that includes day or night husky safaries, snowmobiling, crosscountry skiing, snowshoe walks, saunas by the river and great food this place is it.
It is remote and the nearest town Muonio, is a 3km walk away and has nothing much going for it except for a great hot chocolate menu at the Swiss Cafe which has a small photo gallery showing nice photos of the Aurora and some Lappish goods. Unless you need supplies you can't get at the hotel there is no good reason to go.

I would absolutely reccomend this hotel to anyone wanting a winter activity holiday.
Everything from arrival to departure was excellent.
Very welcoming staff always happy to see you and friendly.
Our room was lovely and comfortable and lovely and warm. Bathroom had a heated floor so nice and toasty.
The food was very tasty we had breakfast and dinner included we were both very happy with everything we had. We also paid to have lunch as well.
Hotel was lovely and clean.
We also had included excursions Huskie safari and panorama snowmobile safari. Our guides were all very good.
The Huskies are well looked after.
We also booked to go to arctic sauna world at hotel jeris we really enjoyed it we did the evening and the saunas were lovely and quiet then I went for a dip in the ice lake. Very refreshing.
We also booked snow shoe and auroa hunting. Lady Aurora was very happy to show her best light show it was amazing and our guide was excellent he was called jan and it was his first solo group tour.
Also the warmth gear that is provided is excellent.
This holiday was magical I have memories to treasure forever.

Chose to visit Muonio primarily to catch the Northern Lights but didn’t manage to see them. Lodging itself is basic but nice. All rooms are in the main building, but rooms itself have a wooden cabin feel. All meals were provided onsite - surprisingly good food. Standard set of activities which include snowmobiling, husky sledding (the best activity), snowshoeing at night and a (very short!) reindeer ride

On the plus side this hotel is in a wonderful location next to the river and is stunningly beautiful in winter. We stayed in a log cabin by the river which was cosy and quiet (although we felt the basics like some tea, coffee and milk could have been provided). Also we were here for 7 nights with no cleaning whatsoever during that time - I believe there is a 10 Euro charge levied for cleaning. Meals ( taken in the main hotel) are of a high standard and food is plentiful and well presented. Staff are almost all ( with one marked exception - see later) very helpful and friendly. However for the first 3 - 4 nights there was a large group of (Portuguese?) people drinking in the bar who were drunk and very loud. The staff took no action whatsoever to address this. Worse was to follow when they left. We came down to the bar and took a seat by the fire - there was nothing to indicate we could not sit here. A short while later a member of staff appeared and turned on a large video screen next to us. She then started to rearrange chairs to barrier off this area. At no time did she speak to us or ask us to move. The purpose soon became clear when we found ourselves sitting at the front of a welcome group for 20 - 25 french tourists. This despite the hotel having dedicated meeting rooms that could have been used. Again I stress there was no discussion with us before the event nor an apology after. In our opinion this was extremely rude behaviour. My end conclusion is that the bar area is rarely a place where you can enjoy a quiet drink , which is a shame as this tarnished what could have been an excellent review.
