This is my favourite place in New Zealand and is beyond spectacular! This is a must visit place and must be added to your travel list. Nugget Point is 1.5 hours' drive from Dunedin and the scenic drive was an amazing experience. The walk to the lighthouse was a little scary and dangerous due to the strong wind but it was all worthwhile. The sea was really blue and could see some fur seals sun bathing on the rocks as well.

Despite the crowds (& there were a lot of people there when we visited) the scenery is every bit as good as the promotional pictures, definately take your camera. The walk to the lighthouse is also really good for the views you get along the way. You have to come here if you have seen the film " Two Little Boys".

We’ve visited dozens of lighthouses in many countries and Nugget Point truly is unique because of its beautiful setting. We had hoped to get an iconic sunrise or sunset photo, but the weather didn’t cooperate. However, the location at the end of a winding walk that stretches across an isthmus out to the light provides wonderful photo ops even in crappy weather. The walk out from the large car park offers many different perspectives for photos and there are some really nice views of the rocks below once you reach the light.

Couple this with a trip literally next door to Roaring Bay to possibly see the rare yellow-eyed penguins along with the attractive village of Kaka Point, and you have several reasons to make the trip. We stayed overnight at Molyneux House in Kaka Point with the hope that the short 10-minute drive would allow me to take sunrise and sunset photos at Nugget Point. It was an excellent plan, but mother nature didn’t get the memo. Even so, I’m glad we made the effort and we would do it again.

A viewpoint and a small lighthouse located above the see, half way between Dunedin and Invercargill. Not bad, you can make some nice pictures, but nothing too impressive. No harm if you miss it.

The walk out to the lighthouse was well worth it. The views are stunning and we saw seals playing on the rocks beneath us.
