We stayed in the village of Pitsidia and rented "the Karolina House" and stay there during one week.Perfect location in the village with a beautiful view, this location is very quiet and beautiful renovation of the entire batiment.Inside is very comfortable and everything is thought, several terraces can enjoy all the views. Short stay enchanting and ideal to rest away from all disturbances. Rent a car for for many visits around

Our first holliday in Crete was a very nice experience not only because South Crete is a very beautifull region of this island with friendly people, but also because The Old Kafenion is a really good Bed&Breakfast. An authentic and comfortably restaured house in a small village, 7 km above the coast, with a great view, beautifull rooms, nice swimming pool with deckchairs, tasty breakfasts and above all a very kind host couple who gives very good advise about interesting things to do in the broad neigbourhood. There is a lot of varied activities to do: nature walks in the mountains and in canyons, car trips, culture, archeological sites, afternoons on the beach, small cosy villages,... The Old Kafenion is a great place to stay those who are looking for a quite and authentic holliday in Southern Crete in an interesting region where you still can feel the local spirit and have a nice contact with the Belgian owners of this B&B . If you rather want a touristic holliday with luxuary hotels and lot of animation, look for a hotel in Norhern Crete.

We stayed for two weeks this summer. If you are not into clubbing and nightlife, but love history, walking, beautiful beaches not swarming with tourists, nice bars and restaurants then this is the place for you.
The Old Kafenion is set in a tiny village part way up a mountain. The whole place has been sympathetically restored and retains its charm. The hosts (Caroline and Eddie) are lovely and always on hand to give you great tips. There is an honesty bar with cold soft drinks, wine and beer in the kitchen, with maps and books available. There is a lovely garden with a swimming pool in which to relax after a day out. Everything is spotlessly clean, with fresh towels and bedlinen regularly changed. It also seemed that the room was cleaned every day. Eddie's breakfast sets you up for the day and he is happy to cook basically whatever you want (well, within reason!). The people we met there have been coming back year after year - so that says something about the friendliness and charm of the whole place.

Although there are no shops in the village, a 1 minute walk from the B&B brings you to a place called Poppys where they serve excellent food and drink at very reasonable prices.

You will need to hire a car here to access everything, although there are fantastic walks all around. We had a taxi arranged by Caroline to pick us up at the airport and our hire car was delivered the next day - which is what we would recommend - as finding the place initially after a flight would not be easy - but once you know your way around it is fine. Most of the main historical sites are on this side of the island like Gortys and Phaistos

We found this place by luck on the internet but agreed that we struck lucky and we would definately stay there again.
