“Picture perfect cottage & village.”
Reviewed 31 October 2013 for a stay in October 2013

We were looking for the picture perfect cottage, located perfectly in a picturesque English countryside village. This was an exact fit. Nothing in Knowl cottage is out of place or second rate, it is fully outfitted with good quality supplies & furnishings. I even cooked large meals for 5 adults with plenty of pots, pans & nice dishes. It is a large house, lots of space for everyone. As Canadian tourists, we searched for over a year to find such a spot, we were not disappointed! Hartington is a tiny ancient stone village, right out of a picture book. Sheep & dairy cows dotting the green hillsides. People go there to walk the trails & take in the country air. There are a couple shops for general groceries, a cheese shop & an extremely good pub a couple doors down, a couple gift shops & a small gallery. The bus service to Buxton is very regular & inexpensive if you're not driving. We had a very wonderful & memorable week there.

“Well equipt, beautiful, character property in a great location”
Reviewed 13 May 2013 for a stay in May 2013

Hartington is a great village with loads of character and in a beautiful setting. It has a lovely atmosphere and some gorgeous little shops, including a sweet shop, general store, famous cheese shop, gift shop, post office/tea room and two nice pubs.
The cottage is lovely, and oozes character. Ridiculously cosy, but with plenty of space for six people. We stayed here with my parents and our 18 month old son (so five people in total), but there was lots of room and it wouldn't have been cramped with six adults, even. Everything was very well thought out, and the owners have clearly got lots of experience of catering to the needs of their guests. The kitchen had everything you might expect from your own kitchen at home, including cleaning supplies, dishwasher tablets etc. Handy laundry area, lovely decor, Wifi and comfy beds all make for a great experience.

Liked best: Location, character and equipment supplied.
Liked least: Lack of phone signal in the village, but that's probably a good thing if you're looking to escape the rat race! Also would have been good to have a stair gate supplied.

“Perfect base for exploring the Peak District”
Reviewed 28 April 2013 for a stay in April 2013

We hired Knowl Cottage as a surprise for my wife's birthday weekend. We arrived on Friday and left on Monday.....Perfect. This Cottage fully deserves it's 5 stars and is comfortable, full of character and exceptionally well equipped to cater for 6 adults. The property was clean, spacious and warm and we used the open fire in the lounge to make evenings a cheery experience. Hartington is a wonderful village with all facilities including Post Office next door and pub next door but one! There is a well equipped General Store and a fish and chip van on a Friday night!. The only down side is "iffy" mobile phone reception. O2 is fine, others not so good but at least you can relax without those annoying calls and text messages. Wifi at the cottage was fast and effective.
I would not hesitate to recommend this property to those wanting a nice bit of luxury and comfort for their vacation. Many thanks to the caring owners for looking after the property so well.
