Description: If you want to eat out in Bishops Castle look no further - Shropshire has a long history of culinary excellence. Shrewsbury has a plethora of good restaurants, and Ludlow is just down the road, which for a time boasted more Michelin starred restaurants than London itself! We don‘t do Michelin at The Castle, but we certainly use many of the same local suppliers. We’re spoilt for them actually. What we aim to produce is modern, good pub food that is healthy, hearty, flavoursome & fresh at great value of course. And you’ve a wide choice of places to eat at The Castle. Each of the three bars has its own individual character, some with open fires, some with terraces out into the garden. Or try our oak panelled restaurant, believed to feature in the Mary Webb novel “The House in Dormer Forest”. And when the weather is warm, & remember it’s always sunny in Shropshire, our south facing gardens with terrace & raised fish ponds provide the perfect spot for a light repast and a cooling beverage.

Lovely menu selection-choice of bar or the beautifully panelled dining room. Great to have the local weather forecast and suggested walk with the breakfast menu.

Visited on a Friday lunchtime. Had the fish and chips with minted peas and a beer. Both good. Fish batter extremely light so ate the whole lot up and felt a bit full after! Friendly staff & nice atmosphere. Good choice of bar areas to sit in.

Had evening meal in the oak panelled dining room which is tiny with a great antique feel.
Steak was done as requested, and was good although not exceptional. Moussaka was tasty but not terribly authentic as mainly tasted of cheese. It came with a greek salad that was mainly olives and feta, which was a bit of a shame as this dish did not really need extra cheese on the side!
Overall a decent quality menu and food was good, not haute cuisine.
Service friendly and attentive.

Good menu with well cooked food.
Only moan - why charge an extra £3 for a big bowl of veg. Just include a regular amount with the meal. Common practice though so we won't hold it against you.

A good variety of items on the menu made from locally sourced fresh ingredients. Possible to access the full menu in the bar area if you have a dog (our prefers to sit in the car). Several tasty choices for vegetarians and vegans. Lovely food with timely and friendly service. Many thanks!
