Great location on the beach near the ferry terminal in Balfour. The building is old, and in need of either a major Reno or torn down. Beds uncomfortable, carpets and counters dirty, room had unpleasant odor. All this for $120 night. Bring a tent and stay at Kokanee creek provincial Park instead.

We came back for our 3rd stay in May, 2011. The hotel has undergone some changes for sure. They are in the process of renovating so we found our room had some new paint, new bedding, new curtains and artwork on the wall which was great.

There are no pets left here anymore and we were very happy to find that there is a new manager in place named Jennifer. If you are making reservations or need anything at all you must speak to her because she is excellent. As always we were told before being obligated to keep our room that we could take the keys and look at the room for approval first. The building is older so we always expect the rooms to be average as it is not a 5 star hotel nor does anyone try to pretend it is.

The deck here is one of a kind, it's an outstanding view (360 view of mountains) and perched just meters above the water.

The pool room is not open but we were told they are working on renovations but in the meantime the kids found plenty to do on the beach or go fish off the docks.

Overall we have seen the BBI in many different states and we are very pleased to see all the new work being done.

Room Tip: If you want an easy time talk to Jennifer.

We have stayed at Balfour Beach Inn several times. The location is fantastic, however, our overall experience has not been very good. More than once we have made a reservation, only to arrive and find that they have no record of it. On our most recent stay, it took us a very long time to check in due to the fact that they could not locate the key for our room. We have also found the service in the restaurant and bar to be hit and miss, on the worst occassion we ended up leaving as we grew tired of waiting. The rooms themselves are very basic, the beds aren't very comfortable, and there is quite a bit of noise transfer between rooms. While the rooms do have a kitchen, the stove units are very old and not always functional.

Since our last visit, I have tried to contact the BBI regarding the room charges as I was not sure that they are accurate and have been unable to get a response to my emails. I have tried calling a couple of times, but there has been no answer (this is not unusual as there is often nobody in the office).

While the location is great, I am not sure that we will stay at this location again in future due to the quality of service. The price for service is just not worth it.

The Balfour Beach Inn is a modest motel style accommodation. The rooms have a kitchenette though they are well within the average price for a room without. The restaurant and bar have a cozy local flair. The view of the lake from the deck is truly lovely, the entire setting is a great experience. If you are looking for a nice place to hang out and enjoy a few drinks in the evening, watch sports or listen to live music you will appreciate the lounge. There is also a marina and boat launch if that is what you are looking for. If you keep in mind the nature of this beach motel and aren't expecting a 4 or 5 star hotel the rooms are acceptable. Also because they have at least one bedroom if not two and a living room and kitchenette, they are a great value. Worth a look if you aren't too prissy.

I stayed here for 3 nights in Feb on a ski tour, and found the staff to be sincere and friendly, This Hotel is a true gem for it has a good room, that steps out to fantastic scenery where wild life abounds, including Eagles, Osprey, Herons. The food in the restruant and in the Bar is excellent. The coffee shop was great in the morning for clearing the cobwebs, take a egg sandwich to go they were super. We were able to grab a few pizzas from the bar for a great late night snack. Can't wait to go back

Location could not be better you are two minutes off the ferry, from the east side of the Kootney lake, Nelson is 25 minutes away (Ski) , and the drive north to Kaslo and on to Revelstoke (ski) was very enjoyable, scenary and land scapes similar to the ones we enjoyed at the Balfour Beach Inn.

Great value for your dollar, has it all in one stop. Food, views, skiing and a good people.
