Visited as a couple on mini-break and had the whole place to ourselves which was amazing. Super room with huge gorgeous bath in room plus ensuite bathroom with double walkin shower. Loads of windows you could open for fresh air if the weather permits & Dartmoor isn't doing it's squall of wind & rain. Really comfortable huge bed and loads of comfy pillows, with a huge warm throw to top off the bed comfort. Log burners in dining & sitting rooms. Central heating too throughout to warm you up & dry wet walking gear or towels for after your bath. Great bar room! with honesty payments for wonderful selection of drinks. Design is part of this place and truly cool. Sonos system for music in living areas. Honestly you could stay in here all day entertaining yourself, or go out exploring on Dartmoor, the villages .......... take your pick. It's cozy while spacious. Hosts Jo & Sam really helpful with suggestions for activities, walks and great eating out nearby, for recommending local stores to get yummy eat in foods, providing plates & cutlery for brought in foods. They've definitely got the accommodation recipe right for us here. There aren't toiletries or tissues provided so do take your own - but all tea, coffee and herbal tea is provided both for the room and with the delicious locally sourced fresh breakfasts. Dairy alternative milks available too. Take a lighter for the log burners.

Hi Elizabeth - Thanks for such a lovely review, it was great to meet you both and so pleased you enjoyed the space and area.
I'm sorry there were no toiletries in your room - there should have been liquid soap at the hand basin and hair and body wash in the shower. It must have been an oversight.
We always light the fires for our guests, so don't generally leave lighters around. Also with children often staying can be a hazard if accidentally picked up by a small hand! If we are not around then we do leave one up high in case someone wants them alight. I think Sam light both for you guys in the dining room and the lounge so i bet that was super cosy.
Have a fab Christmas and would love to see you both again.
Happy new year too!
Jo

We returned to Weeke Barton for along weekend, two years after we first visited. I am always slightly apprehensive about returning to great places in case the reality is not as good as the memories, but Weeke Barton remains one of the best places to stay in Devon.

Sam and Jo are excellent hosts, with loads of great local knowledge. The house is stylish, comfortable and has everything you need.

The breakfasts are excellent and this time we were also there long enough to book in for an evening meal, which was delicious.

Our second visit won't be our last!

We took the whole house for four nights for two families and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The weather wasn’t perfect, so we didn’t explore the garden too much, but the location is secluded and peaceful and the house is charming and well set up for single occupancy and for B&B. The owners live in an adjoining property, so are not far away if you need anything.

The house works very well if you have grown ups and children - there is a large sitting room with a wood burner where the kids can loaf about, listen to rap and discuss their favourite Instagram influencers, and a separate, smaller den/bar where the adults can complain about rap, Instagram and kids generally.

Between them is a dining room with a table large enough to seat everyone and a wood burner that helps make meals atmospheric and cozy.

As the kitchen has to serve a five bedroom B&B it is to all intents and purposes a professional kitchen, with everything that you could need and made catering much easier.

The bedrooms are all great. No one felt like the poor relation having to compromise on a bathroom, space or decor - they all felt like hotel rooms with lovely bathrooms and some had window seats with wool fleeces that you could sit on as you look out over the countryside.

The location is great too - close to a number of walks and attractions. I would recommend the Canonteign Falls, Haytor and Becky Falls if you are into walking and the House of Marbles if it’s a rainy day and you want to be reminded of simpler times.

Great fun! A wonderful ancient building, well decorated and presented by a couple passionate about their new venture away from Hackney. A wonderful peaceful night and dinner over a communal dining table which is not as awful as it sounds :)
My only slight criticism is that supper is a one-choice affair (meat pie) and the bar is not as widely stocked as the owners might think (no martini, Campari etc. I'm sure they'll remedy both.
I'll be back.

Room tip: All rooms are interesting and spacious

A blustery weekend away to relax and explore. Weeke Barton is warm, comfortable and welcoming. Very cool, stylish and sociable. The food was gorgeous and nothing was a problem.
Our hosts were very helpful and easy going. The concept of eating and drinking together allowed us to make friends easily with other guests too.
I would definitely return and recommend it to anyone needing to recharge.
