I recently married the Most Wonderful woman in the Most wonderful place we both could ever imagined been; casa la Joya is definitely a piece of Heaven..Since the very first moment we put a single foot on the way down to the house the Full Sight of the Ocean stole our breath, second thing that stole our attention was the delicious smell of the salt of the ocean even before entering at the house, the Details of all the house are Simply a Madness. If you aren't in-loved I guarantee you will definitely fall in love by Casa la Joya and its beautifulness. You will never regret of visiting la Joya, but you will if you don't visit it.
Even though you're in a gated community the home is situated in a way that you have lots of privacy. It's an incredible feeling to wake up to the sound of the ocean and see the water crashing against the rocks below right from your bed! The kitchen, inside dinning area and living room are separate from the bedrooms so I was never woken up from the housekeeper making coffee or getting breakfast prepared. She made fresh juice every morning which paired wonderfully with all the fresh, local foods. There's a dinning room so you can eat inside but the weather was fantastic so we ate on one of the veranda's, taking in the view of the mountains and hoping to catch a glimpse of a monkey. It was great having the pool right on the porch so when I got hot I could just step right down in it! I can't say enough about the design of the home. Every room has a great view. It feels very modern but the owner has Nicaraguan decor throughout. You can sit somewhere different every night to relax or read. Each bedroom has its own porch and seating.
My main concern when I travel is things to do and here there is more than you can get to in a week long stay. Within walking distance is a beach with a bar, restaurant and yoga studio. It's just people from the community so it has a very homey feel. There is also a spa although I didn't get to that. If you're up for a longer walk you can go to a little fishing village near by that has a few bars, restaurants and a store similar to a convenience store (sort of). I saw locals fishing and having picnics with their families and kids playing in the ocean.
We used the driver the homeowner recommended and he was great (but doesn't speak English). Very friendly, always smiling and he knows the best places to eat. He drove us to Ometepe Island and handled everything dealing with getting on the ferry which was a relief. One day he drove us to the town of Rivas and we just walk around, going into the shops and sampling the local food. There's a small, outdoor market there and you can get fresh food to take back to the house. I didn't see a lot of Nicaraguan made trinkets there but they had other things like dresses, barrettes and CD's.
Getting back to the house in the evening was a great feeling. The beds are so comfortable and you know you're going to wake up to that amazing, ocean view. We did get to see a monkey before we left - by the way, the noise the howler monkey's make is kind of terrifying the first time you hear it. We walked up to the front of the house and the guard showed us where it was.
The entry to this place is dramatic and the drama follows throughout the house; there is an ocean view from every room in this gorgeous home! I loved sitting poolside watching the most incredible sunsets. Saw howler monkeys, beautiful birds, moths and butterflies. My bed was super comfortable. Each morning, I would open wide my room's french doors then crawl back in bed to wake slowly, drinking in the sight and sound of the ocean. Everything is nice and clean. The kitchen is well stocked. The craftsmanship of the builder is amazing. Most, if not all, of the home's gorgeous furnishings were also crafted by the builder. It's a short (although steep) hike to a beautiful beach that has lawn chairs and hammocks for relaxing in the shade or sun and a beachside bar that sells lovely food and drink. While there, I enjoyed a wonderful massage at the nearby resort. Pick up groceries before your arrival because you will not want to leave this paradise.
It is an awesome place to stay with my husband! We enjoyed the view and the quite there... was just fantastic!
Thanks to Jeannie for her gift!
My husband and kids love the place!

This place is magical. The house is beautifully finished with stunning Nicaraguan wood furnishings and is fully equipped with everything you need. Sitting in the infinity pool at sunset is one of my favourite memories of our time in Nicaragua.
The owner Jeannie is a lovely, kind person and she will go out of her way to make sure your stay is special. The staff are friendly and always around to help.
I would recommend doing a big shop in Rivas before you arrive as well as hiring a car (preferably a 4x4). If you don't fancy cooking, the restaurant at Aqua is great and a few minutes stroll form the house.
In short this place is just incredible. There are few places as nice in Nicaragua!
