My boyfriend and I spent 11 days in Costa Rica and Hotel Playa Bejuco was the perfect ending to our trip. We did not have hotel arrangements for the last two nights of our trip and originally planned to find a place to stay in the Quepos/Manuel Antonio area as we made our way back to San Jose. After we arrived in Quepos/Manuel Antonio, we quickly realized that this was not the place for us. We decided to continue north to find a quieter place to stay. We were so glad that we found Hotel Playa Bejuco.

We traveled to Costa Rica during the rainy season and ended up being the only people staying in the 20 room hotel. The hotel staff made us feel special while we were there. Breakfast was included in the room rate and the food was incredible. Our favorite dish was the crema de mariscos. We really enjoyed spending time with the staff each evening (especially Carlos) while enjoying drinks and dinner in the open air restaurant.

Our room was on the second floor and was way more space than we needed. The main living space had a king size bed, a single bed, TV and refrigerator. The room also had a loft area with two additional single beds. The bathroom was large and adorned with beautiful blue tile. We did encounter a cockroach in the room, but this should always be expected when traveling to a tropical destination. I am always amused by the people who complain about bugs in the rainforest. We get more bugs in Minnesota. Please relax and enjoy your time in Costa Rica.

The hotel was located a short distance from the beautiful beach. We spent several hours fishing the river and the ocean. We felt like we had the entire beach to ourselves. A special thank you to Carlos who offered valuable fishing advice. We can't wait to return to Hotel Playa Bejuco!

Room tip: Rooms on the second level offer lofts with additional single beds which would be perfect for families.

When we arrived the electricity was out, but it was soon restored. The staff were very helpful, with a lot of local information. The room was large and well-appointed. The area was quiet, and the local beaches were mostly empty and great for long walks, and watching the sunrises and the sunsets. We saw many scarlet macaws right across from the hotel as well as in the trees along the beach. It’s a low-key area with no annoying vendors trying to sell you anything. The setting was a bit remote but that was exactly what we wanted.

This was the third stop, after Arenal and Monteverde, on our trip through Costa Rica. It was really the first place it got hot and buggy! The hotel itself is very charming, and it located close to the beach. As I was on a trip with several of my students, and stayed here shortly after the tragic student drownings, I was pretty nervous about letting my students go near the beach. Fortunately, they were more interested in swimming in the lovely pool at the hotel. We did spend time at the beach - watched some amazing sunsets, played soccer with some local kids - we did not swim in ocean. Take bug spray - I got tons of bites watching the kids play soccer towards the end of the day.
The rooms at the hotel were really nice, though you do need to remember that there will be bugs and such - especially if doors are left open. Several students had resident geckos in their rooms. :-) One thing I was uncomfortable with is that the south facing rooms on the first floor have doors that open in the back, and there is nothing but open space that has not been developed - just made me nervous, especially with students. On the same note, the hotel is really by itself, with a lot of open, semi-developed land around it - just didn't feel very safe away from the hotel and the beach. The service staff was also a little on the unfriendly side, and didn't talk to any of us at all, barely even responded when we needed help.
Overall, we had a great experience, and some amazing seafood! A couple of us adults on the trip ordered lobster that had been delivered fresh that day. Amazing!

During the most devastating event of my life, the loss of my son at the beach near this property, I was never more grateful for a place to stay while the search continued. The fact that the hotel is away from all of the touristy areas, is very modern and quite beautifully appointed was unnoticed until the next day. What mattered was that the owner/manager and staff were so empathetic, so helpful, and so very respectful. They accomodated our group at the last minute, offered food, and charged a very reasonable rate. As I walked back and forth from the beach to the hotel, the night watchman was ever present. The darkness and silence, excluding the sounds of the waves and nature, were actually comforting. As I was leaving, I saw two Macaw birds flying over. Despite my utter dispair and anguish, I said I would come back to this place - yes to remember, but also to say thank you again and to support the people who supported me and our group with such compassion and quiet respect. A beautiful small pool, open air restaurant/reception area, very low profile modern beds, cable tv, beautiful bathrooms with large showers, small refrigerators, and very good air conditioning. All very nice amenities, but the kindness of the people - that's the value in this place.
