The Hollybush Inn and Restaurant

Well we have stayed in B&Bs and hotels from 25.00 to 350.00 per night and have never experienced anything like The Hollybush
The price had been hiked up for a six nations weekend ( not that we were there for rugby ) but the extra revenue wasn't wasted on the guests
Dirty, paint peeling from the walls everywhere, ceilings cracked and poorly painted, Curtains that don't fit the single glazed windows, damp and cold ,it doesn't look like anybody has cared about the property inside or out for sometime
Added to 1970s school toilet tissue and nobody had even filled the 1970s style soap Despenser on the wall. The room wasn't really fit to let for any fee !
The breakfast is left in your room and consists of one pint of milk ,frosties or fruit and fibre and nothing else in the way of choice
Your hosts don't wave you goodbye and ask about your stay you have to unlock the gate yourself and post the keys through their door before ten o'clock
Now the Pub trade may be having a hard time and money may be abundant, but poor surroundings can be saved by a warm host ,good manners and elbow grease

Visited Sunday after a walk around Ruperra Castle. A lovely open fire welcomed us in from the cold along with a glass of Directors. We were dubious about leaving the fireplace , but the upstairs dining room was lovely and warm. We all ordered leek and potato soup which was lively and hot and three of us the roast beef and Yorkshire pudding and one the belly pork. As a Yorkshire tyke I always judge the puddings , and they passed muster. Four huge slices of beef with lovely fresh veg and roast potatoes. We were too full for dessert but had a lively coffee. The staff were friendly and the meal was excellent value.
The place was a little shabby and the toilets are badly in need of a refurb, but we all agreed we would definitely go back.

I organised our annual Christmas gathering at The Hollybush for location and the history.

Our group had varied dietry requirements of which Jacky and her staff were very happy to acomodate.

The food was hot and tasty with no delays so we were all able to eat together.

The guests who had opted for the steak all stated it was outstanding as was the turkey dinner.

Everyone had an enjoyable evening and we all left around midnight with a few staying overnight in the rooms.

Thanks again Jacky

Reading some of the negative reviews before arrival I was slightly worried. However, my worries were dispelled on arrival. Arrived with my daughter for a night away for her birthday, in pouring rain. The lady who checked us in was very welcoming. The room was very nice, when we came back cold and wet from Cardiff was lovely and toasty warm. Beds were comfy with plenty of bed linen. Ok, breakfast was just cereal and drinks, but really is that the end of the world? There is an asda not far away if you want a full english. Also car park has cctv, with a locked barrier at night, so as 2 women travelling felt very secure. Very pleased on the whole, would stay again.
