“Not up to expectations!”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 February 2012

Did we stay in the same place as previous reviewers? I don't think so! We had been given a Tickles Voucher as a gift and although we had a problem making the booking as I was told they were fully booked a vacancy was eventually found.
We arrived in late afternoon and were shown to Room 1. Fine but freezing cold. My huband asked in the pub and was told that the heat would be on soon! We sat in our coats for the first hour and then it was warm. The food on offer for dinner was extremely limited and not really worth bothering with. Everything appeared to have been reheated several times over including the chips. The wine list was extremely lack-lustre and most of the bottle we chose ended up being flushed down the loo as it wasn't worth drinking. Only one other table occupied in the restaurant and potential diners were turned away at 7.50pm because they had "stopped serving food".
Breakfast just about ok.
I don't know why they originally said the place was fully booked because it clearly wasn't. Maybe everyone had found somewhere else to stay. How wise of them!!

Room Tip: Make sure the heating is turned on.

We have stopped off here a few times on our way back from Ipswich, and their sunday roasts are very nice. They always use local produce. The service is friendly, pleasant and polite and quite efficient. They also have a lovely spacious bar with tables to sit. In the winter they have the fire going, its comforting.

We booked this stay on a Tickles voucher. When we arrived we were made very welcome by Dan the owner. The pub was very much a country pub with a woodburner and nicely dimley lit.

When we were shown to our room, we were pleasantly surprised. The rooms are huge and newly decorated and very clean. We stayed in Room 4, which was in a perfect position, We did not hear any noise from the road whatsoever. Our room had one single and one double bed. The bed being a double was a little small for my husband who is over 6ft but this we find anywhere. The rooms were really warm, we had to turn the radiator down and it was really cold outside. The rooms had a flat screen tv, full sized kettle and mugs, teas, coffees, sugar and milks and plenty of them. We even had complimentary biscuits and bottles of water which were very much appreicated. These small things make such a difference. We have stayed in luxury at the Maldives and not had such a huge helping of teas and coffees!

We ate in the restaurant and the food was lovely. Very well presented and not overpriced. Everyone seemed to go back to their rooms quite early here, I do not think it is a place where you would stay out very late.

The next morning breakfast was served between 8-10am. We arrived around 9.30 along with most other guests. Breakfast consisted of tea, coffee, juice, cereals, bread, toast, jams and a full english. A wonderful start to the day (even if a bit filling!!).

We ventured around to look at the garden at the back of this property. They have a nice play area for children and also keep chickens. We will be returning with our daughter for sure. Also, they take dogs here, which is great if you want a night or two away and a walk with the dog along the beach at nearby Southwold.

Would we return? Definately we will. What made this place so nice was not only the rooms and food, but most of all the two guys who run it. I am sorry, I only know Dan's name, but both of them were so hard working, polite and their service better than excellent. So thank you, Plough Inn for making our stay so nice.

Me and my partner had brought a tickles voucher after some friends recommended it to us. We were the only guests staying there that evening due to the fact it is so close to Xmas and I must say we were treated like royalty! We had dinner there Which was great value for money and we will be bringing family back for a meal within the next few weeks!! The room was spot on. Couldnt hear the road at all :-) so no idea what the reviews are on about. I stay in alot of hotels due to the type of work I do and trust me this place is brilliant! Great value for money!! Thanks to guys for making our 1 get away so pleasant!!!

We had a groupon stay overnight at the Plough Inn. Dan was there from start to finish and tirelessly catered for our every need. He made us feel so relaxed and made sure we had just the right room. We had a fabulous large room with equally large bathroom with double shower. Decor was modern and clean. We were particularly impressed by the more than adequate heating. Evening drinks and supper in the main bar by the lovely log fire were excellent and we had our breakfast the following morning cooked to perfection. Well done Dan, we had a lovely break and hope to see you again. Brenda and Stephen.

Room Tip: All rooms are large and comfy.
