We enjoyed the "tasting" menu at 18 euros which was a feast of local products, starting with bruschetta with various toppings, chicken salad, frittata in pastry, followed by very generous platters of meats then cheese. Or you can just choose one of the platters or salad individually. It's a simple menu. Washed down with a pleasant carafe of red wine. Local bobby came in for a takeaway mortadella sandwich, the meat sliced from an enormous piece taking pride of place. Bottles of fine wines and champagnes line the walls right up to the ceiling. Seating is at long tables so be prepared to share. You can buy products to take home.

A variety of typical local foods, from mushrooms to cheese to meat with a glass of local wine. Delicious! Well worth the stop.

4 of us are here last week. We started each with a plate of various vegetarian bits which were utterly delicious, next came the meat board followed by a cheese board to share. You are encouraged to take your time and there is no rush. This was followed by a selection of cakes/pastries . We had 4 bottles of wine which was excellent. The meal cost just over 100 euros which is incredible value for all the food we ate and the quality of the wine. The owner was extremely friendly and attentive - he was also being interviewed by a Spanish tv food writer whilst we were there which was fun to watch. We sat in the back room (which is part of the old cathedral) which is surrounded by wine, cheeses and meats etc. Wonderful food and location. Incredible slow eating experience

So we went here the first time and ordered a plate of cheese for 6 or 7 euros. The amount of cheese we got was impossible to eat and we took the rest home (bread was quite stale as well). Ended up we were charged for 2 portions which is not what I asked for. Put it down to language barrier. Came a second time to have lunch and order a mixed plate of food. Made a point of asking for one plate 'to share' and said it in Italian. It was 18 euros so I didn't want to pay for 2. But the food kept getting chopped and kept on coming. Half way through I stopped the lady to say - we are just having one portion, aren't we? She said - 'for two people' and low and behold we were charged 36 euros and had to take half home. I do think it was deliberate but thought what the hell and just decided not to come back again. Shame, as the atmosphere inside is beautiful

Each time we come to Castelnuovo we pop in for some mortadella or proshuito with some nice bread before heading off for our next adventure. The selection of goods always makes it hard to choose.
If you like wine you can also purchase some as they have a wide selection that is displayed along the walls. I always enjoy looking at the interesting bottles. A great little place to stop for a bite to eat with very friendly service.
