We visited this bar in the evening time. There was music playing. There was a good crowd and the music was good. We were surprised when a young boy - aged around 8 years - was sent around the bar collecting money. We were very surprised! The bar was fairly full and - presumably - making good money. We felt there was a bit of emotional blackmail in using a young boy to collect money. We live in Ireland where there is a strong musical tradition. No need for commercial bars to use young people in this way??? Maybe we missed something!

As Real Estate Agents well know, position is everything and this apartment on the 2nd floor overlooking Playa de la Calera had that in spades! (See photo).

The colourful 50 sq.m. apartment was fine with good size bedroom with double bed, bedside tables and wardrobes. The living area combines lounge & dining rooms and kitchen equipped with the usual cooking and eating utensils, 2 hotplates and fridge.

Both bedroom and living areas exit on to the balcony which has table and 2 chairs plus a useful clothes line attached to the wall.

Bathroom small with shower, basin and loo.

Staff very helpful, friendly and speak English, German and Spanish.

We paid 521€ for 6 nights which we considered to be a reasonable price for such accommodation.

The Gomera Lounge also runs an excellent bar open in the evenings with live music in the high season. The reception on the jewellery and tourist shop underneath the apartments can book various tours too.

Notes:
Apartments serviced every day by a very cheery cleaning lady. Towels changed every few days.

No lifts and steep stairs.

Shower can sometimes take quite a while to become warm. On asking for a hair dryer I was loaned a small travel one. Thank you.

Modem for WiFi is on the wall in the living room so signal is very strong but can drop Internet signal. Switching it off for 30secs may help.

While kitchen is quite well equipped, a toaster and microwave would have been good.

For those arriving by car, the nearest parking is 200+ metres away but all parking in the town is free.

We were told that the Spa on the roof must be booked a day in advance.

Water on tap in the apartments is NOT drinking water which is available at the entrance to the apartments.

Best was our Spa evening with a Real great view at the beach side, perfect sunset and well equipped. Roma are nice and serving all your needs. Pricing is fair. Choose the sea side and having a nice view at your balcony.

Room tip: sea side balcony

We have just arrived and our rooms are just as I hoped, uniquely decorated, with simple artistic flair, our 4 poster bed is made from bamboo, and we can hear the waves crashing on the beach outside our window. There are restaurants and cafes all around but they aren't noisy at night. A calm spot for chilling, not for clubbing.

We have booked The Gomera Lounge more or less at random, among many available facilities within the La Playa section of Valle Gran Ray. We could not have chosen better, at least to our liking.
The place is clean, comfortable and stylish, with no posh luxury (we didn't want that), and the location is excellent: a waterfront building, with most of the windows looking into a small side lane with oceanic view. A lot of cafes, restaurants and shops just "round the corner", and no street noise or bustle under the windows at the same time. The sitting room is cozy, nicely decorated and spacious, a separate alcove with beds, a kitchenette, a good balcony, roomy toilet and shower. The staff is exceedingly friendly and helpful, behaving more like friends rather than personnel. Importantly, WiFi in the room was steady and quick.
One curious peculiarity of this small portion of La Playa: there is a small 'dead space' of mobile phone connection just around the Gomera Lounge location: step 100 meters any side away, and the communication is OK.
