“Good value on voucher deal”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 March 2012

Just used our Groupon voucher and had a pleasant stay. Ate in the bar and food was very nice, lovely homemade chips. The bar keeps very good real ales with a choice of 4. Room was nice but mattress a little firm for us. Breakfast was also nice and was served in separate dining area upstairs. Would stay again on a deal.

My wife and I went for an evening meal at the Queens as the hotel were were staying in did not open its restaurant on a Monday. We were told that the food was freshly cooked and it was My Whitby scampi was very good but my wife's steak was 1/3rd good and 2/3rds tough. The Malbec wine was very acceptable. I was going to have some Whitebait as a starter but the waitress had to come out and tell me that the chef had just told he they had run out.

The service was acceptable-the young lady that served us most of the time seemed a little nervous and maybe this was the reason it took a bit of a time for her smile to appear. When it did it was a good smile.

Not sure we would go back again

I have emailed the customer to apologise, they had a rump steak and we have found the quality to be inconsistent, so wont be buying it again.

We stayed here on a Groupon Deal which was really good value. Our room was quite tastefully decorated and warm, the bathroom a bit tired with peeling paint but the big bath was lovely and plenty of hot water. The bed was a bit firm for our liking (as previous reviewers said) but the pillows and linen were lovely! The ikea wardrobe was a little wobbly but that didn't bother us.

We had our evening meal in the restaurant on the first night and it included a free bottle of red (or white) wine. We chose mussels and the sea bass with ginger stir-fry veg which were both delicious, as were the desserts. The head waiter is a humorous character!

On the second day we walked up to Cragside House in freezing conditions (the guy in the Tourist information office was very helpful) so felt we'd earned our drinks in the bar on our return! We ate at the Italian restaurant at a nearby hotel that night which was also very nice.

The only thing I would change is I'd ask for a quiet room away from the kitchen next time as we were woken by the radio and general noise as the chef prepared breakfast (which was delicious with lots of choice).

Room Tip: If you're a light sleeper ask for a room away from the kitchen .

Hi, thanks for the nice review, coincidentally I have today spent 4 hours repainting the bathroom..... should have done it sooner but the room has been occupied constantly for weeks, I am not complaining, lol. New bath panel on also so a very productive day.
I hope you will visit us again and will keep in touch.

We stayed here for a night on a Groupon deal. The room was clean and toasty warm, the bed was comfortable and the towels were bright white and fluffy (although I would have preferred a larger bath towel) There was fresh milk, which was great (rather than the little plastic pots), and nice large mugs. The staff were friendly and helpful.

We had an evening meal where the starter and mains were very good and well presented, however the cheesecake I had for dessert was a little disappointing. It was more like a frozen mass-produced one, but I did like the ice cream that was served with it. Breakfast the following morning was excellent.

There is a variety of events happening at the pub which seem to be well supported. It was quiz night when we stayed, and the bar was full. We were welcomed onto one of the local teams and had a very enjoyable evening.

I would definitely recommend The Queens Head as both a place to stay and a place to eat.

Whilst visiting Rothbury on Sunday 26th Feb 2012 we visited the restaurant at the Queens Hotel for an evening meal. Found the surroundings to be really pleasant and the staff were very most helpful and very efficient. The food was delicious and served in good portions. We had value for money and really enjoyed the evening. Intend to return.
