Stayed at this hotel 23-30 March. Taxi transfer from airport was a nice touch. First impression of hotel was that it was big & a bit of a maze to get around and not very well signed but you soon got used to it. On arrival our room wasn’t ready. Advised to go to restaurant & they would phone when room was ready. Had to wait a few hours. However, when we finally had a phone call to say our room was now ready we discovered we had been allocated a room on the ground floor with very limited sea view. Having paid extra for a “luxury sea view room” we were very disappointed & contacted reception. After a lot of discussion with reception we were advised the hotel was full but they were able to find us a sea view room on a higher floor the following day. We then had to hang around the hotel most of the following day waiting for a call to say when our new room was ready. Could not believe when we finally had our new room on the first floor late in the afternoon that the balcony had a 4ft solid concrete wall around it & you could only see the sea if you were standing up!!!! The balcony also had a solid concrete roof so there was not much sun. Obviously we were not happy as for us a highlight of the holiday is enjoying sitting on the balcony in the sunshine looking out at the sea & that was why we requested & paid for a sea view. Even though we were very disappointed & unhappy we did not complain again as we had already wasted 2 days of a 7 day holiday just hanging around and unable to unpack. Speaking to some other guests we discovered that they had been given lovely sea view rooms which they hadn’t requested or paid for therefore I would advise anyone thinking of booking this hotel NOT to pay any extra as you cannot be guaranteed to get what you pay for. I would like to point out that this is the first hotel we have had to complain about our room and we have stayed in many hotels over the years. Apart from the room allocation issue it was a nice hotel. Very Friendly staff, plenty of choice with food & drink & entertainment was good. The rooms were big and very clean & the pool & communal areas were also kept very clean. The guided tour of the Nature Reserve was excellent. Free shuttle bus twice a day to Las Americas. Special mention to the TUI reps Carl & Ben who were very friendly and helpful. Due to the room allocation issue we wouldn’t stay at this hotel again as we didn’t get what we paid for. The holiday was booked as a 60th Birthday celebration so it was very disappointing for us.

Room tip: Avoid rooms 033 & 133 if you want a sea view

Dear Cymraes23;

In the name of Sandos San Blas Nature Resort & Golf let me give you many thanks for taking your time and writing a review about your experience here with us.

It is our pleasure to read all your positive expressions and suggestions about your last stay in our hotel.

Concerning your comment about your room balcony, we would like to explain that there are different types of them, some are opened and some have a concrete wall, like yours, the reason is that there are some people who prefer to have some privacy while staying at the terrace, and some other people, like you, who prefer to enjoy the ocean view even while lying down, so we think that the best solution is always to comment any possible suggestion during the stay and then we will do our best to find the best solution, in your case it would have been as easy as to offer you a different room that suited you better.

Regarding your comment about which other guest had sea view without paying, we should check the reservations. If the guest does not pay for a room with sea view, it does not have it, it often happens that customers book a lot of time in advance and do not remember the type of room they have booked.

Once again thank you very much for all your positive comments and suggestions.

Yours sincerely,

Diego Otamendi

Our second 2 week stay at this hotel was every bit as great as our first. As this was to be our main holiday for this year, we booked one of the Junior Suires, and we were not disappointed. It's actually 2 rooms 'rolled into one' - the additional space was fantastic. As we're not pool people, and prefer to be on our own, the Bali bed on the balcony allowed total sun bathing privacy. The whole place is very well looked after and is always clean and tidy. Standards are very high across the board and the ambience promotes a friendly, relaxing stay. Guests staying 5 nights or more are offered an inclusive (superb) meal in the on-site La Proa Restaurant. This was a most appreciated bonus, which we really enjoyed. However, perhaps the main reason we have already planned our next visit, are the fantastic staff. We were always greeted with a smile, nothing is a problem for anyone and there is real sense of teamwork - almost like one huge family pulling together to make guests feel so happy to be there. Finally, the entertainment was tremendous. The Animation Team gave 100% and their We Will Rock performances were superb - we loved it. We spoke to one couple who felt it was "a bit amateurish" (THEIR words, not ours!) - we very quickly pointed out that this was perhaps actually true, because every performer works hard in all their other roles throughout the day. These men and women offer free, high quality entertainment to those of us who appreciate the work that they put into every show. Well done Juan - your choreography direction is brilliant. Roll on next year.

Room tip: Consider what time of day you prefer to have the sun on your balcony.

stayed in sandos san blas for four days and honestly i could have stayed there much longer, i will definitely be returning, i could not fault anything, the room was amazing, always cleaned daily and maids were kind and chatty if you were in the room when they came, the room had brilliant sea view for someone who never paid for one.

the reception staff were so helpful, the bar and buffet staff were always so polite and nothing was ever too much trouble, always served you with a smile on their face which makes a big difference. i was worried about the food after reading the reviews but after going there i honeslty don't understand how anyone could fault it, always a wide selection to choose from and there were different options every day for a nice choice of variety.

didn't have enough time to attempt booking into the spa but would love to try it next time i go. i recommend the shuttle bus into playa de las americas, was a nice day out and was easy to book at reception. enjoyed the entertainment at night time, again i don't know how people could compain.

cannot wait to book up again to come back here, thank you for making our short holiday so enjoyable for us.

The hotel is stylish and modern, with a good selection of amenities. It's very close to the airport with a transfer time of only 15 minutes. It's in a quiet area and a courtesy bus runs twice daily to Playa de las Americas. It's situated on a hillside, but there are paths and ramps to avoid steps if necessary. Rooms are spacious, with two large beds and a well equipped bathroom with whirlpool bath, separate shower, twin wash hand basins and bidet. The glass screen round the bath is unusual, but screens can be pulled across if you want privacy. The room has tea/coffee making facilities and a TV with a good selection of European channels including BBC1, BBC2, ITV and Channel 4. Pool towels, bathrobes and slippers are provided. There are separate adults only and family areas at the pools and restaurant. Two of the swimming pools are heated to a comfortable temperature.

The buffet restaurant has a good selection of food (although not 5 star) but it's a little repetitive for a stay longer than a week. The food also tended to be cool by the time it was taken back to the table. Desserts and coffee were very good though. A visit to the La Proa a la carte restaurant is included but we were a little disappointed with the quality and choice of the tasting menu. The selection of all inclusive drinks includes some branded spirits and cocktails.

Service in all areas is excellent with friendly and efficient staff and the whole hotel is spotlessly clean and well maintained. We received a bottle of cava and a bowl of fruit for our anniversary and the table in the restaurant was specially decorated. There is live music in the lobby bar every evening, usually a singer or instrumentalist playing to a backing track. A show is held in the large downstairs auditorium every night, varying from acrobats to tribute groups. Various daytime activities are provided, but there is no pressure to join these. Sunbeds and parasols are readily available.

The guided walk through the nature reserve is worth doing and includes a multimedia presentation at the start. It's not suitable for those with walking difficulties as there are steep stony paths and steps. You can also go on your own, but it's easy to stray from the paths and lose your way!

There is a small sandy beach, but you have to clamber over pebbles to reach the sea. Footpaths (steep in areas) from the beach lead to San Blas on one side and Los Abrigos on the other. San Blas has a selection of shops, bars and restaurants.

I would certainly return to this hotel but I'd probably pick a warmer time of year as it was quite cool and windy at times!
