We stayed nearby and this was an excellent choice to dine. Food was delicious. Everything on the menu so refined and well executed: I had the duck terrine, and the pork medallions with potatoes and vegetables. The dorado tartare was tasty and light. The salmon fillet delicious. The Camembert rôti yummy. The chocolate dessert (so good!) and the grapefruit sorbet with the pineapple soup light and refreshing. The decor is refined rustic French farm. Adorable. We were seated next to the fireplace a bonus and so charming. The grounds of the hotel lovely, the gardens make you feel like you’re in a movie set they’re so pretty, almost teletubbies material!

Thursday evening meal was a disappointment. The risotto had a funky rancid undertone and not well paired with the salmon. Friday evening meal was perfect. The pineapple soup desert was a uniquely delicious Treat!

In 2014, we spent three nights at the Auberge. And while the property is breathtakingly beautiful, what really blew us away was the brilliance of the food. So when we planned a 2017 return trip with friends, I knew we wanted to have dinner at the Auberge. It evolved into a special "Farewell To Normandy" for the eight of us as I was able to work with the staff to create a special menu for our group (for a PHENOMENAL price - five courses for less than 50 euros/person, service included!). And just like three years before, every single course was absolutely mouth-watering with local/seasonal ingredients. Additionally, their wine list was both extensive from regions all over France, but it offered a wide range of price so you can spend a little or a lot, but with good quality wines in either category. It was the perfect conclusion to our stay in Normandy and while I would recommend staying there, you at least must dine here!

BTW, TA asks if the cost is mid-range or fine-dining. This was difficult to answer because while the EXPERIENCE is fine-dining, I would say the cost was more mid-range (and it definitely wasn't what I would describe as "casual table service!"

We stayed at this peaceful and pampering hotel for three nights in May. With considerable rain, the narrow unnumbered roads, and a good feeling about the hotel's culinary standards, we opted to stay in for dinner all three nights. The menu has limited choices, but changed each night. We were very pleased with our decision.

The wait staff is young, earnest and suave if not completely experienced. The ambiance is informal French country chic. Someone has good taste in music as the background recordings vary from quiet jazz, new age to a bit of classical, all very tasteful and soothing.

But we were here to dine, not to be cool. All of our dishes were attractive, tasty and employed ample local ingredients.

The first night, there were only six diners. The second night that number quadrupled and the last night was nearly as busy as the previous. The first night there was one waiter who easily handled the thin crowd. There were four waiters the second two nights and they more or less kept everything on an even keel. No one was in a hurry and the overall experience was relaxed and fitting for a country hotel.

The chef is equally talented with fish, fowl and meat for main courses. Starters and desserts are given careful attention. With supplements for several of the main dishes and a typical French mark up on wines, the meals are in the high moderate range and fairly valued for the quality of the meals. Just a few miles and worlds away from the tourist hustle and bustle of Honfleur, this is a very peaceful and attractive oasis for a fine, relaxing if not extraordinary meal. Non hotel guests are welcome, although in the minority.

We arrived, a little early, on a late summer evening, at an idyllic setting. After a dull and damp few days the sun was shinning, the garden was delightful; and we seemed set for a splendid evening.

There was no sign of a member of staff.

Exploration revealed the reason: everyone was seated around a central table eating dinner - we retreated to the garden.

Just a little after the appointed a member of staff appeared and, unsmiling, ushered us to a table. The menu was a little limited consisting of three choices for the first and second courses (both comprising two fish and one non fish option which effectively meant no choice for one of our party) a set cheese course and two dessert options.

With one exception the food was superb; beautifully cooked and elegantly presented but, it is not only about the food. What should have been one of the gastronomic highlights of the holiday didn't quite make it because of rather dour service. Our wine was placed at a separate table - not usually a problem if the waiter is attentive and replenishes glasses as they empty. On one occasion, after a thirsty wait we were driven to asking for more wine to be poured. Most good restaurants have a practised trick to ensure that the waiter knows who ordered what without having to ask - not so here. With the exception of a rather dull clafoutis. pre-prepared a little too long ahead, the food was excellent and just a little improvement in the service would have made a very happy evening.

It is sad that, with so many points in its favour, the Auberge de la Source does not tempt us to return on future visits to the region.
