Had a lovely ski break here during half term week. There were two schools staying here during our visit but this wasn't an issue for us or our son as we ate at different times to ease congestion!
The hotel isn't a five star, all singing all dancing modern establishment and for some the decor and amenities might be a little dated e.g. the wifi is only available in reception and can be hit and miss; the tv in the room is small and only shows mainly italian channels; the bathrooms are a little dated and the furniture is basic rather than salubrious. It's also a bit of an uphill walk from ski school and the chair lifts which some might find tedious after a day on the slopes.
That said, I would stay there again for the following reasons:
the staff can't do enough for you - the owner is friendly, multi lingual and a real wealth of knowledge regarding the area, pistes and skiing. Nothing was too much trouble. For example, we had a very early pick up on the last day and as it was too early for the staff to be in, we assumed we'd grab breakfast in the airport. Instead, the owner arranged for a buffet style breakfast to be set out for us at 6am so we could at least have something before setting off.
The food is lovely. Every night there are several courses and we struggled to finish. Every night it was something different and there was a choice of soup or pasta most nights for the 2nd course. I literally couldn't finish. Breakfast was buffet style with fresh rolls, croissants, cheese, ham, cereal, fruit, yoghurt etc and again, there was plenty of choice even for a picky 7 year old like ours.
I've stayed in ski hotels before and literally froze at night so I'd packed lots of layers but I didn't need to. The rooms were warm and I didn't need to sleep in pjs! Our room consisted of bunk beds,a double bed, a bathroom and a separate adjoining room with a single bed. This wasn't something we'd requested but it was ideal given we used the single room as somewhere to keep the cases and ski gear during the trip.
If you find the walk from the boot room to the slopes a bit much for tired little legs, we can recommend hiring a ski locker from the shop next to the Gipy supermarket. We paid about 36 euros for a double locker right on the slopes and this made the world of difference after our son had been worn out at ski school each day.
We'd also recommend Clataud shop for hiring equipment. Staff were lovely and really helpful.
Writing this i feel quite sad to be back home now. Even though there are more modern hotels around, I'd still choose to stay here for a value for money, friendly and warm welcome.
