This must be my favourite hotel. This summer was my second visit, and certainly not my last. The hotel is very professionally run, and also manages to be friendly and relaxed. The setting is amazing - on a slope above the village, with views of the abbey, the village, and the mountains. You get an excellent breakfast, and the restaurant has a large terrace. (My only little niggle - and not big enough to remove a star - is the lack of changing daily specials on the menu. This is important for those staying a week or so.) Go for a room at the front, with a flower-bedecked balcony, and there will be days when you wont want or need to go out, it is so relaxing! Plenty of parking, excellent WiFi.

Our amazing road trip across Germany, Switzerland and Italy bought us to this to
Hotel. A beautiful village with breathless scenery. The people were friendly, the rooms brilliant, the food delicious and the views spectacular. Be sure to visit the Oberammergau for the alpine coaster, mountain bike or skiing in the winter.

We stayed here as part of our 3 generation trip across Europe (my Mom, daughter and myself) and loved every minute of it. The complimentary breakfast was beyond amazing. We stayed in the "economy" section (in the Gasthof) in a triple room and although the room was small it was plenty adequate. The bathroom reminded us of a cruise ship bathroom (small stall with a shower, toilet and sink) and was nothing fancy. It was a basic room, but was very clean (great value for the money). The owner of the hotel came and talked to us every night and the food in the restaurant was wonderful. The chef always made special food for my daughter (she is a picky eater) and never questioned us or made us feel bad about asking. Everyone spoke great English.

Room Tip: Ask for a monestary view in either the Gasthof or Hotel side.

You gotta love Bavaria. Lots to do and see. This hotel puts you right in the Bavarian Alps within a short drive to Linderhof Palace, Garmisch, etc. The rooms are clean and spacious, with a wonderful view of Ettal Abbey and the countryside from our balcony. The included breakfast is top notch with a lot of variety. They have a great dinner menu with traditional food, local beer, and a good wine list. The staff is very friendly and speak English. Parking is free.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a balcony

Second time we have stayed and just as beautiful and welcoming as the first. Rooms are nice with views of the Abby. Spa and sauna is a nice addition (no textile for the bashful). Restaurant serves German fare and breakfast is always good. Nice location between Oberammergau and Garmisch.
