Fantastic resort, great memories

5.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed 4 May 2015via mobile
After reading a number of reviews regarding the proximity of the island to Male we were a bit worried that we wouldn't get Maldivian feel that we were hoping for. However it wasn't an issue and the beauty of the island and the quality of the service we recieved fully compensated for some occasional airplane noise.
Overall it was fantastic holiday: spacious island cottage with very modern outdoor shower a few metres away from the gorgeous beach, fantastic food, excellent customer service and beautiful gardens. Although the island doesn't have its own house reef (which was the only drawback of the resort for us), it offers very reasonably priced snorkelling trips which we really enjoyed. As being mentioned in previous reviews the dolphine trip is a must!
We would definately come again, as the whole experience was absolutely flawless - from the first contact with Angelfish Travel with whom we booked our holidays (Angelfish knowledge of Maldives and customer service is second to none) to speedy transfer and check in and being able to enjoy the beach an hour after landing.

I am currently staying in one of the Club Water Bungalows. Normally, I would only write a review after my entire trip. However, my experience with Sheraton has been impeccable since I arrived at the airport. Therefore, I can't control myself but to write a review now. The staff had been super friendly and warm and they have gone out of their way to mingle with guests. Any small request would be attended to. Any query would have a prompt answer. Any doubt would be clarified. Any problem would be resolved. Believe it or not, that sums up my experience in just one day. Looking forward to the remainder of my 4 days here! Good job guys!!!!

My husband and I had a wonderfull time in this hotel, staff is friendly and profesional, however when we got in the pool, there were a huge chinese group continuosly spitting inside the pool, screaming, talkiing out loud, and some ofthem with seethrough clothes with no underwear on....this made us and the rest of the tourist run away from the place... staff said there is nothing they can do towards this behavior...I found this incredible

It was one of the best vacations my hubby and I been to. Way beyond our expectations especially after I read some previous negative reviews, I was iffy what to expect...Upon arrival to the airport, we were greeted by a sheraton representative and escorted to our speedboat transfer. Greeted with a nice beverage in the lobby and even better, surprised with an upgrade to our stay as a spg gold member...We stayed in water bungalow 113 and loved it. It was an end unit with the sand bank and lounger across the bungalows to enjoy the view. As a spg gold member, the hospitality was great, we were treated with a tray of dessert and given an early check-in considering we arrived by 8:30am with a late check-out of 2:30pm since our flight home departed later. The only thing to note is the food. Granted it was to be expected at resort prices, the quality wasn't as exceptional for its prices. The breakfast buffet is $30 but I felt it couldve been better. The dinner buffet was too expensive for us, starting at $90+. We ended up buying a la carte from the beach bar. We tried the scuba diving beginners package and it was definitely worth it and memorable. Our instructor from euro divers was the best. She was very accommodating to us first timers. It was definitely memorable and beautiful underwater. We also used the free kayak and SUP which was great. Snorkeling gear is also free but we didnt use it since we could literally enjoy the beautiful fish under and around our bungalow. We went parasailing for the first time and it was one of the best views to see the neighboring island. I also tried the free sunrise yoga and it was nice but a simple stretch so don't expect much. Everyone loved our pictures from our vacation and they would love to visit themselves someday. I hope we can visit again in a few years. Love it!
Some people commented on it being too close to the airport and seeing/hearing the planes but we didn't mind at all. It didn't ruin the experience. We most definitely enjoyed our awesome r&r vacation!

Dear mnm28,

Thank you for taking your time to share your experience with other Tripadvisors.

We are thrilled to read that you have enjoyed your stay at Sheraton Maldives, from the proximity of the airport to your room and underwater experience.

Our Water Bungalow offers a large outdoor deck where you can indulge in Indian Ocean views and snorkel your way around your bungalow.

We will pass on your comment to our watersports team for the great service they provided you with, with a special mention for the diving instructor.

Most of the products in the Maldives are imported, therefore our prices are comparable to major capital cities around the globe, however we have taken well note of your comment on your dining experience and we will ensure some trainings are done in order for us to improve our quality of dining options that we provide.

We look forward to your return!

Warm regards,
Jean-Louis Ripoche

Me and husband visited Sheraton for honeymoon. Hotel is amazing they have lovely staff. The only point i would HIGHLY recommend is if you are going to book sheraton you must and must book ALL INCLUSIVE otherwise you'll get ripped off. Me and husband booked bed and breakfast and we made the biggest mistake every night we spent over 300 dollars on meals which was too much to pay at the end of our holiday. Other than that the island, restaurants, our room, food, pool activities were all amazing.

Room tip: Beachfront deluxe is amazing

Hi,

My Wife and I visited the Sheraton Full Moon for 5 nights after a brief 4 days in Dubai which was well needed after the madness that Dubai has to offer!

We arrived on the island via boat (15 mins from Malé Airport) and were welcomed by a friendly team of staff.

Ice cold flannels and chilled grape juice welcomed us whilst we were exchanging credit card details and passport information etc which was a nice gesture.

We were then driven via Golf Buggy to our island cottage (No.222) and were shown in, where we were welcomed to complimentary champagne and chocolate cake as it was our Honeymoon.

Unfortunately outside our cottage (222) there were some building works being undertaken to level the ground which we did not notice on our arrival as we were too excited looking at our new surroundings, however these became clear the following morning at 9:30am when the mini JCB digger started scraping the ground.

Credit to the staff though, I dialled "0" and complained and within 5 mins the works stopped. I stated that I understood maintenance etc was essential and agreed that works commenced the following morning after 11am which they did.

My criticism for a hotel of this rating is that they should have informed us prior to checking in, especially considering it was our Honeymoon, potentially giving us the option to relocate. After all, it's the only hotel on the island!

The hotel is also under a flight path of Malé airport so do not think for one second you are on a remote "Cast Away" island with Tom Hanks as this is most definitely not the case....

We had an all inclusive package which I believe could be made a lot more simple by wearing wristbands opposed to telling the staff your room number in every bar/restaurant you attend, and then having to sign a receipt every time you want to leave. Some bar staff were confused and sometimes struggled to understand what was actually included within the A.I. Package itself.

On a more positive note the food in EVERY single bar / restaurant is UNBELIEVABLE!!!

Seafood lovers will be spoilt for choice, and I have to recommend Sand Coat restaurant for a top class a large carte meal!

Drinks service however was a different story. The Anchorage Bar and Beach Bar were totally useless. We were always forever getting the staffs attention by either throwing an arm in the air, an evil glare or if at night time using our l.e.d table light to grab the attention of the staff. Drinks would then occasionally be wrong and sent back, waiting an additional 5/10 mins.

We booked the Sunset Dolphin cruise which was a must in our opinion!!! So amazing to see them in a natural environment and nothing more romantic than on a boat in the middle of the sea, sun slowly drifting down whilst watching the world pass by.

The water sports hut on the beach offer free canoeing and free paddle boarding (30 mins per person per day) but this is very relaxed and nothing happens if you run over. They also offer snorkels, masks, flippers and a bag to carry them all which need to be returned at 5pm each day.

We left our 11 month old baby at home with our parents due to the long travelling distance but had the option of using FaceTime to keep in touch. For this go to the main Reception area in the centre of the island. The Wifi package is an absolute rip off and free wifi is available, so ask a member of staff if you need assistance.

The Anchorage bar has restricted wifi use but still allows you briefly on whatsapp or Facebook messenger (at times) depending how busy the network server is.

All in all we had a fantastic honeymoon including our time in Dubai, and although the Sheraton Full Moon had many positives during our stay, for that time we travelled and money we paid via Virgin Holidays we would not be going back again in a rush.

The service mainly for drinks was not up to the standard of a 5 star resort, and being an all inclusive guest I would expect the staff to be asking me for food/drinks/cold water every time the made eye contact with me.
