Big drink lists, snack foods, it's one of 9 restaurants run by this group, good service, nice pizza ovens and big interior but narrow restaurant. Nice day so we ate in/on patio/street/sidewalk.

The wine bar has a good selection of Italian wines, for all price ranges, and also good options by the glass. The food menu is quite extensive as the bar is directly open/linked to the next-door Italian restaurant. My friend and I ordered a "royal antipasti" plate for 2, and it was a great choice: selection of many cold and warm starters, including hams, smoked salmon, gambas, lamb cutlets, mozzarella, beef carpaccio, grilled veggies... Cool ambiance for a nice evening.

We were staying at the hotel, and opted for dinner here our first night. We split the insalata caprese, which was fantastic, and the tagliata was incredible -- well cooked, great portions, and so on -- as was the seafood spaghetti. Ladyfriend and I are Italian speakers, and we sat back by the kitchen, where all of the staff seemed to be Italian (a good sign). With the exception of the -- not rude, but certainly cold -- Dutch waiter, we had a really nice meal that I would have rated a four on TripAdvisor. (Only real negative -- the tagliata is a little clunky -- it's a huge cut of beef, served with a rocket, tomato and parm salad, with roasted vegetables, including a roasted potato, as well as mashed potatoes... It was far too much food for Ladyfriend to finish off, but it was tasty.)

As we waited that evening, the pizzas kept rolling out of the oven, and they looked great, so we decided to go back for lunch the next day. This, my friends, was our error. With the exception of the cold waiter, who was omnipresent, it was a totally different experience. Our Polish waitress (tuns out, Italians work in the kitchen and as servers, but we didn't have any interaction with anyone Italian unless they were dropping off food...) was lovely, but did not know the menu, which was, in fairness to her, new. In fact, the menu was so full of translation errors that it was hard to tell what was even on offer (they later apologized, and explained that the printer had simply left most of the English translations of the previous menu items, and had only changed some of the Italian...). We got one of the pizzas that had looked so good the night before (these are Roman style, so are meant to be thin and crispy, not the thicker, chewier Neapolitan style), but it was underdone and doughy. It was generally very bland, and so we also asked for olio al peperoncino, or at least some chili flakes to spice it up, and they literally did not have anything of the sort in the entire restaurant. In the end they brought some very mild fresh red peppers (think bell), which didn't get the job done.

The final gastronomic insult was the sgroppino. A sgroppino has three ingredients: lemon sorbet, vodka and prosecco. Theirs, as it turns out, is made in a machine (basically a margarita machine) and contains, among other ingredients, cream, so it's more like an vaguely alcoholic melted ice cream. (And lactose-free Ladyfriend had to send it back...)

On the positive side, as other reviewers here have noted, the wine list is extensive, and both of the wines we tried were excellent.

We should not, perhaps have been surprised: it became clear over the course of the holiday that basically all of the restaurants that surround the hotel there are owned by the same conglomerate, and we should have maybe known better than to have gone back for more. But that first dinner was really something, and it saves them from a two- (or if I'm honest, even a one-) star rating.

From the looks of it, this is the best value for the money of the restaurants in this resort area (and with the most interesting menu), and we had one good experience, so maybe try it? But next time I'm in the are I'll be heading back in the Den Haag for dinner.
