Lou Sicret is low key with light garden chairs and a simple menu but the quality and the atmosphere and warmness of the people is first class.

The day we visited Montségur (mid-June) we felt like we were the only tourists in town as it was so quiet. We bought bread at a bakery in town, and asked the baker if he could suggest a place to eat, and he recommended Lou Sicret, which was close by. Although it was rather cool, we opted to sit outside on the patio to enjoy the gorgeous scenery. We were the only ones there for lunch. We had a very nice salad, and then pork stew with baked potatoes, which was hearty and tasty. What we really appreciated was the freshness of all the vegetables – we watched the woman who served us and prepare our meals make several trips to the garden next door for all the ingredients. Great little spot for a meal.

Characterful and simple in the best way. Delicious food created with love and dressed beautifully with edible (if you wish) flowers from the garden. Heavenly deserts: ice creams of roses and violets; Lavender crème brulé. Take your time here, this is a place with a rhythm of it's own. I left feeling dreamy.

Montsegur was so quiet it could have been the village of the dead. We had almost given up hopes of finding somewhere open for lunch when we chanced on this backpackers' lodge with a rough and ready dining patio, littered with mismatched chairs and several plastic recliners. A charming waitress showed us to a round table for 5 in a sunny corner with a spectacular mountain backdrop.
A 15 euro set menu offered nettle soup, goat's cheese salad and a mains of delicious local sausage cooked au feu du bois with a large loaf of rustic bread on each table. Nearly every table was filled and everyone was having a great time in the bright sun, not least because they were enjoying bargain food in a genuine, unaffected but beautiful setting, and the very drinkable wine was only 7.50 euros for 1/2 a litre. At less than 20 euros each all told, this was excellent value and an occasion all of our party will long remember.

We arrived after the day's walking to a very friendly welcome and drink in the garden. The two dormitory floors with bunk beds were basic and open plan (use your earplugs!). The bathroom had 3 showers and two toilets to share between all. It was sufficient for our group of 12 since we didn't expect luxury. The host was very accommodating to get us connection through internet with the outside world since there was an emergency with one of our group. The dinner (5 courses) was inside at a large table in front of the fireplace and the meal was excellent with fresh, organic produce from the garden and local area. The girls cooked a special vegetarian meal for one of the group which was highly appreciated and tasted great. Breakfast was basic. All and all, I would recommend this place if you are not after luxury but prefer a rustic and friendly atmosphere.
