Recommended length of visit: 2-3 hours
Owner description: A short distance from Castiglione, the imposing fortress of the Rocca di Tentennano dominates the village of Rocca d'Orcia, rising up still today to guard over the Orcia valley below, where pilgrims, merchants, and travelers once made their way along the Via Francigena. Through the courtyard, visitors can enter the halls that once housed a garrison of soldiers and climb up to the top of the keep, from which they can enjoy a sweeping view of the countryside.

A magical vista....so with the effort!
I wondered up one afternoon...we were staying in a villa below the town of Castiglione..and was rewarded by 360° views of Val d'Orcia...so beautiful! But hold onto your hat...it was quite windy!
Only to be undertaken by those with independent mobility...(the metal stairs become steeper the higher you climb).. do it if you can.

The Fortress is kept beautifully in this tiny village away from the noise of the city. The view over the Orcia Valley is priceless. If you are looking for a quiet moment away from the city, good wine and food and fresh air, you cant miss this spot.

This was an unexpected treasure. You can climb to the castle roof with amazing panoramic views. The castle itself is beautifully kept and clearly well looked after. When we visited the castle was displaying Shakespeare-inspired artwork inside which was a lovely enhancement to the mood. We visited around lunchtime on a weekday and had the place to ourselves, and it felt very tranquil. Would highly recommend, and the small entry fee of 3 Euros is well worth it.

Our hosts recommended us to go there as we were planning trip to Bagni San Filippo and it was really worth it. The fortress is small but monumental (30 minutes is enough to visit, ticket 3 EUR). You start to wonder how those guys in medieval times were able to construct such thing. The whole thing resembles some sceneries from Game of Thrones but as far as I know it didn't starred there :) And not many tourists around what I liked.

My partner and I got married here on the 26th March 2016 and it was absolutely perfect. The views are spectacular and it was an honour and a privilege to be able to have the most important day of my life here. Grazie Castiglione d'Orcia.
