We stayed at Cercignano for a week after friends had recommended it highly. If first impressions are important then it doesn't disappoint in this department - the cypress-lined driveway is something to behold !! It is set on 20-30 ? acres including vineyards and olive groves and has spectacular views either end of the property. It is only 3-4 km out of Colle di Val d'Elsa in a quiet rural setting of rolling, leafy hills in a raised position which gives the great views. It is a peaceful break from the busy towns nearby.
The main building is 500 years old and the rest of the buildings reflect theTuscan 'agricole' character; also there is a cute little chapel with frescoes within - perfect for a wedding.
Our host, Mauro, was very friendly and obliging, and told interesting stories about the place and his family's history around it, and the place had many interesting artifacts and memorobilia to view.
The apartments were good and spacious ( although shower a little tiny) with kitchens that had hotplates, fridge, more utensils are needed and a kettle and saucepans and microwave would help; plenty of free parking and a tennis court.
He generously gave us a bottle of the red wine (chianti) that he produces - it was very good too, as good as any we tried in Italy.
A great feature of the place is the huge pool and plentiful furniture which makes it a great social hub and that refresher after another day exploring Tuscany.
What a great vantage point it is for visiting places nearby like: San Gimignano, Siena, Lucca, Florence, Montalcino, Pienza, Montepulciano...etc
.....some MUST SEES include : Gelateria Pluripremiata in San Gimignano...world champion gelateria ; the amazing, concave Piazza il Campo in Siena; Miriam's for leather jackets at the San Lorenzo market area of Florence( they had very good prices (< 120 Euro) ; the best Brunello red wine at Montalcino ( best wine we had in Italy) ; the high up old town of Colle di Val d'Elsa with a great pasticceria called Pasticceria Mario Barone - best in town.

We stayed at Cercignano which is about 3-4 Km out of town. Easy to find. Angelo our host was helpful and friendly. The property consists of a 500 year old house surrounded by small buildings which have been converted into apartments. We stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment for 4 days and them moved to a 1 bedroom apartment. The property has a huge in-ground pool really useful on those hot summer days. Angelo presented us with 2 bottles of his own chianti - delicious.
The property is centrally located and with a car is close to all towns including San Gimignano, Volterra, Sienna etc.

Price was good value and the accommodation excellent. Highly recommend.
