Lovely but extremely expensive resort in Lapland. Dinner and breakfast included. Sauna's were unfortunately not warm. Definitely a bucket list place to visit. Finns beware, almost no one speaks Finnish, which was a shocker for me.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for the review, and we're glad you enjoyed your time here in Kakslauttanen. I'd just like to point out that our Chalets and Kelo-Glass Igloos all have saunas in them to use anytime, and the saunas for our Glass Igloo guests are warmed every night. There might have been some miscommunication there, but rest assured saunas are always available.

Kiitos arvostelustasi, ja tervetuloa uudelleen! Thank you!

We loved so many aspects of this resort, the activities were very enjoyable and we got to witness the Northern lights. However, the resort requires a lot of walking around in -22c weather looking for your room. We arrived late afternoon which is pitch black you are given a map, a key with a small torch and sent off to your room, oh and pulling your luggage in a sled. There is no signage so you are wondering around freezing looking for your room. From there it is a little better. We still had a kilometre walk each way to breakfast and dinner and it was quite cold for us non Finns. We did enjoy almost everything and did the husky ride, the snowmobile ride and the reindeer night Safari. A little help with your luggage, some signage to find rooms and some shuttle services would make a big difference. We were in Kelo 56 so it was a long walk for us.

Dear John,

Thank you for your review, and we're glad to hear you overall experience was a memorable one! We'll take your feedback into account in the future, and we'll look for ways to make sure our guests have no issues in finding their accommodations. I'd like to point out that there's always the availability of thermal clothing rentals in the reception if the weather turns too cold for your liking.

Thank you for the review, and we hope to see yo back again.

Whilst the accommodation was clean and comfortable and we thoroughly enjoyed the husky ride, our extortionate experience with Father Christmas, which was the main reason we'd gone to Lapland, was terrible. We paid 250 euros for 3 children (and 2 adults) to go. We turned up at 4.30 on Tuesday 19th December (the only time Santa was 'available' apparently) with about 50 other children and were split into 3 groups of about 17 children (plus accompanying adults).
We went to the 'celebration house' (which was pretty soulless) rather than Father Christmas' house (due to the large numbers apparently) and met a rather mono-syllabic Father Christmas who barely spoke to the children before he handed them a half stuffed fox each as their present. Any photos we tried to take had fire exit signs in the background and the children didn't get any personal time with Father Christmas at all. My three children came up to me saying 'I guess the real Father Christmas must be too busy because this man is rubbish!'
I have complained to Kakklauttanen by email about 10 times since we returned - I refuse to telephone because it costs so much money and I got stung before we went because the resort wouldn't reply to emails about activities then either and in desperation, I rang - and I have yet to receive any acknowledgement at all, almost 5 weeks later.
I feel cheated and conned. It felt like a massive money-making exercise trying to get as many people through the door as possible (and charging ridiculously over the odds) and it felt fake from beginning to end. We went to Lapland keen to try and extend the Christmas experience for our children by visiting Santa in his supposed homeland, but this completely ruined it for them. I'm so cross that nobody has responded from the hotel, especially as they have the temerity to say that any complaints have to submitted within 8 days!!! It's almost 5 weeks since I wrote...

Room tip: The glass igloos are fabulous.

My adult daughter and I spent 2 nights in the glass igloo and 2 nights in a log cabin. Could not recommend a better place for a winter escape. There is so much you can do here. Or simply relax and enjoy your surroundings

Me and my Finn husband love the Finnish sauna, therefore we chose the Kelo igloo, it was definitely the right choice for us especially after a day out in the snow. The igloo was built with wood logs, not just the structure itself but also with all the furnishing; the beds, dining table, chair, pantry, cabinets... It also equipped with a kitchenette so we brought with us some sausages to cook on the traditional wood heated fireplace! The best part of it is the glass igloo attached with the log house which we could just lay back and look up to the sky (regrettably we didn't see any northern lights...). The only comment is that there could have been less lights and trees around the Kelo Igloo so we could perhaps get a better chance to capture the northern lights.

The main restaurant is another "wow" factor! It all built with wooden logs and in the middle section of every single pillar was hand crafted with some sort of art. The hanging lights were all made from reindeer horn, so much details have been put into it to create such a nice and cozy atmosphere. The breakfast and dinner were all included, both the service and the food were exceptionally high standard, the salmon soup was so mouth watering and I couldn't resist to request for a second serve! We were truly enjoying each day and were looking forward to the meal time every day during our stay.

Would you like to have a wine or cocktail under the star? Then do visit the Igloo Bar, and don't forget to order a "Reindeer Piss"!

Although we didn't see the northern lights (which is the main objective of this trip), however we are not regretting it a single bit!

Room tip: Kelo Igloo with the glass igloo facing towards north.
