“Never again”
Reviewed 30 July 2011

We have recently returned from a holiday to Ibiza staying at the Granada Apartments in Portinatx for 7 nights.
We are extremely dissatisfied with this holiday which was ruined by the appalling accommodation. Like most people going to the Mediterranean area we live mainly outside on a patio or veranda. We were attracted to the Granada Apartments due to the photograph on the Thomas Cook website showing the apartments grouped around the pool with good patios/balconies.
This was reinforced with the words: “On site these well appointed apartments are built around a beautiful swimming pool, and traditional Spanish-style courtyard, where a sparkling oasis lies invitingly, surrounded by sun beds and palms, allowing for a secluded feel to this sun drenched spot”
Sounds perfect doesn’t it? Well it is if you are allocated an apartment in Block A as shown in the brochures.
Even Block B, although it does not have a pool view is very nice.
However if you are allocated Block C then you get a patio as shown in the photographs.
Block C is under the swimming pool and has very poor outside areas.
C1, which we were given, is the worst of the lot. Minor irritations like half the lights not working and having to hold the kettle plug in whilst alarming sparks were emitted were bad enough but the patio area must be seen to be believed. It consisted of a 2 metre deep pit, measuring 1.5 metres by 2 metres, right next to the road. This picture is as it is seen by anyone on the road.
The sun umbrella seems somewhat superfluous as the pit was north facing and never had any sun.
This facility fell far short of our expectations based on the information provided by Thomas Cook. We complained immediately to the owner who mentioned that the previous occupants of C1 had also complained. The owner promised to try to move us on the next changeover day but never did.
We do wonder if anyone from Thomas Cook ever inspected this property. We were glad to leave.

Room Tip: Do not have a studio in C block, especially C1.

We have just returned from a 2 week holiday in Portinax and stayed at the Granada Apartments. We stayed in the studio apartment (B5) and found this perfectly suited to our needs as a young couple using this mainly as a base to travel the island.
The 'kitchenette' is a microwave and hob in a cupboard! this made us giggle... it was perfect for making cuppas and warming up pain au chocolat in the mornings, we didnt use it for much more - there is a decent size fridge to store water/beer.
The room was hot but we found it bearable, what i'd expect from Spain in July!

The pool area is always lovely and clean and always enough room for everyone to grab a sun lounger - was a bit disappointed that it closes at 7pm when the sun is out until 9:30!
The staff are all lovely, we really enjoyed the family feel of this place and they were always very helpful and welcoming.
There is also a fantastic library downstairs with comfy chairs and wi fi... perfect if u get too hot and want to check your facebook!
Portinax as a whole is a lovely place to relax, we particularly like the Paella in S'Arena and the Sardines @ a restaurant near the little beach. But if you are a young couple, you could get bored! We hired a car for 30 Euros a day and got round most of the beaches in Ibiza - Benirras has the best sunset!

Would definatley recommend the Granada Apartments to friends and family... i miss Ibiza already!

Just returned from a week long holiday to the beautiful resort of Portinatx. The beach nearest to the apartments was very safe and for the most part calm and warm with an abundance of fish to be seen not too far from the shoreline. We travelled as two families and I would have to say that our family faired slightly better with the allocation of apartments. Ours was a first floor studio overlooking the pool whilst our friends stayed in the "cave" which was mostly underground! Both had their pros and cons. Overlooking the pool was a mixed blessing as we were disturbed on a couple of nights with late night revellers, in particular by a couple of raucous families and one cackling woman in particular who retold stories of her childbirth experiences and also described her tattoos to anyone who cared to listen. Need I say more! At this point can I say hi to our fellow suffering neighbours Sue Roz and Carole. The other factor which contributed to our sleeplessness was the oppressive night time heat. There was a fan provided but it was not enough really. Our friends in the cave were not disturned by the revellers and were slightly cooler at night owing to their underground position.
We stayed on a half board basis, eating our meals in the pretty enclosed courtyard and found the breakfast in particular to be good quality. Evening meals were mixed but on balance were better than not. It's all a matter of taste so don't let that put you off. The staff, in particular Jane, an ex pat, was most helpful. It was a family run establishment and you definitely got the personal touch. Cleanliness was a high priority and in particular, the owner's daughter was kept very busy, maintaining the pool, reception duties, even cooking the meals!
Overall we had a brilliant time and would recommend the area. We hired pedaloes and had great fun snorkelling amongst the fish and chilling on the beach. The glass bottomed boat trip was excellent. Barring the little annoyances, which were no fault of the Granada we thoroughly enjoyed our week long stay

We have just returned from a weeks stay in these apartments.
The staff were great and very helpful, the apartment was clean but ......

We stayed in the studio apartment and it was so hot. The terrace was surrounded by a high wall backing on to the road, so even with a fan there was little air movement within the room. I dread to think how hot this apartment would be any later in the season.

Do not look for a tapas bar in Portinatx there is not one. You can eat chicken and chips, omelette and chips and lasagne and chips . There are fish and steak options but you need an overdraft to afford these meals.

The buses are good for getting about the island.

I would recommend going to Ibizia town both in the day and night.

Ibiza Town in hindsight would have been a better option for two middle aged ladies who enjoy food, culture and people watching to stay in.

I stayed here with my 6 year old daughter and extended family and we all thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Staff are friendly and very helpful and food is excellent although only a small selection is available. Location is great for beaches, shops, restaurants.
