“Beautiful spot for a peaceful break”

We stayed in the cottage for a week over the Easter break. Spotlessly clean, nicely furnished and with some nice touches like WiFi, McLeod's Cottage offered us everything we could have wanted from a Highland holiday. Katie is a great host and had plenty of good advice on what o see and do in the local area. With red squirrels, hens, ducks and pheasants in the garden, highland cattle in the fields and with night skies so clear we could see satellites as well as stars and planets it offered a perfect location for us. We brought our bikes with us and had three great days out, including cycling from the cottage up Glen Avon, a spectacular valley that leads into the heart of the Cairngorms. The nearby Glenlivet mountain bike trails offer some of the best trail riding in Scotland. A visit to the Speyside Cooperage and the Glenfarclas Distillery were great days out too. Most of our time though was spent around the cottage. The garden provides loads of space for the kids to play, fish and practice bushcraft. All in all, its been very hard to find fault.

“Wonderful Scottish Highland Getaway”

From the moment we turned into the Estate gates we all fell in love with this secluded highland cottage. Coming from a busy lifestyle and constant background noise the first thing we had to get used to was the serene quiet, the only noise to break the silence was the gentle babble of the Ailnack water which runs at the bottom of the cottage garden. Outside the cottage is an enormous garden that leads to the river which gave our children aged 9 and 12, at that time, hours and hours of enjoyment exploring and trying to catch fish from the river in their nets. Inside the cottage was very well appointed with everything we needed to make our stay like home from home; there was and ample supply of clean fresh towels available and good quality bedding which combined with the peacefulness of the area made for an excellent nights sleep. The walking around the cottage is simply breathtaking and invigorating and will give you a good appetite for a meal at the excellent Clockhouse restaurant which is in easy walking distance in the village of Tomintoul. The Village of Tomintoul has a excellent array of shops selling everything from your daily newspapers to a bottle of local Tomintoul Whiskey.. There is a good art gallery in the village which sell some fantastic paintings by local artist Jane Lannagan which we simply could not resist taking home two paintings of Tomintoul to remind us of this wonderful place. There are plenty of good days out also within the area for the children to enjoy, Landmark Adventure Forest at Carrbridge is a great day out and one we go back to time and time again. This cottage is a prefect location for all kinds of parties from families, like us, whole family group getaways to couples in need of a relaxing week away. We booked the cottage through Katie, who lives on the estate, who was extremely helpful and friendly and made our whole experience of the Scottish Highlands one to remember. We have booked the cottage again for this year and will without doubt be one of our annual holiday destinations for many years to come, a definite jewel in the wonderful Scottish Highlands.
