The best hotel i have been to,home from home ,staff so so friendly, they make your holiday so very special.
I cannot wait to return soon. From the moment you walk through into reception your holiday begins.
my first time there was December 2016,just after losing my Dad,one evening there was a carol service leading up to Christmas.I began to sing then felt tears and one of my favourite barman came up and give me a hug to find out what was wrong. That made me feel very special. After this i kept returning because of the wonderful friendly people i met and will carry on doing so for years to come.

We visited this resort in November and was absolutely impressed with everything. Small resort but everything about it was amazing. Hoping to someday be able to go back. Everyone of the staff members were so polite and always went out of their way to help.

Everything about this hotel is outstanding especially the staff who treat everybody as special. This was our second visit and it was even better than the first. Hope to go there again next year when I know we are guaranteed excellence.

Room tip: I recommend an ocean view room.

We stayed here for two weeks leading up to Christmas and had a fabulous time. The hotel is situated on the beach which is perfect and the garrison historic area including race track is just around the corner. We had a sea view room which was fine and serviced daily. The quality of the food served in the buffet was excellent and we always found something good to eat.All the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We never had a problem getting served, a special mention to my namesake Deyrick an excellent bartender and Kay who served our breakfast. We would thoroughly endorse all the previous positive reviews and would certainly recommend this hotel.

A first time visit to Barbados and we were not disappointed! Sugar Bay opened 5 years ago after being previously known as I think the Amaryllis? The hotel is of a good standard but I know they are shutting down in September 2020 for renovations. It’s a small hotel on a beautiful beach, with plenty of beds and umbrellas. We visited in January and found no issues with getting a bed on the beach or the pool. The staff here are so very friendly and welcoming and everyone has smiles on their faces or a friendly word.

The food is very good and the head chef Paul is English and has worked on the island for more than 20 years. There is a buffet restaurant with a wide selection of delicious food plus Umi (Asian fusion), Sizzle (steakhouse) and in addition Collins Beach bar which also served delicious meals at lunch along with a good selection of cocktails!

We changed our room on arrival as it was quite small and had a slight smell of damp but all fixtures and furnishings were of a good standard. We moved to a ‘pool view’ ground floor room (135) which was like a little hidden oasis with foliage and a decked area with sunloungers. Very easy access to the pool even if it wasn’t exactly a pool view, but very pretty and secluded. The beds are huge and the room was very spacious with good WiFi a modern TV, fridge, iron, ironing board, and a nice dressing area with wardrobe and shelving. The bathroom was clean with a lovely hot and powerful shower and was cleaned daily with fresh towels. Free shampoo, conditioner and shower gel is supplied.

The pool area is nice although the pool may be a little shallow and small for some but has a lovely swim up bar which was well stocked. The sunloungers are. Sry comfy with very thick cusions on a rattan base and looked very new. The grounds are very pretty with foliage and shrubs all around and you can spot the odd humming bird too. There are monkeys that live very close by and sometimes come to visit the grounds but you need to be quick to take a photo, they normal run along the roof line of the Umi restaurant and live in trees behind the pool view block, where there are banana trees.

The hotel also has a lovely relaxing coffee area with large sofas and chairs right near the outdoor terrace. This is help yourself and also includes cookies and cake. They do an afternoon tea here also, not that I attended but I’m sure it was very good. There is also a spa and gym which we didn’t use and a nice library area with booked to exchange and a lovely open view to the sea. The concierge desk is also here and the ladies are very helpful and booked a few things for us. I think there was mention that there may be an Italian pizza place and coffee shop in the near future. There is a ‘pub’ away from the main buildings which has a pool table and darts and stays open til 1am.

We can recommend Champers restaurant and also the small catamaran cruise which we were lucky enough to do with just 8 of us and it was a lovely day. Also recommmed going to Oistins on a Friday eve where they do the fish fry...and a short hop to The Gap which has some lovely bars with music for a nice change.

There are beautiful beaches everywhere and we particularly liked Rockley Beach with the Tiki Bar...you pay for sun beds and a brolly but then are given a voucher to spend in the bar in food and drink, so a win win. Another beautiful stretch is Carlisle Bay. We entered via the Boatyard and paid for beds and umbrellas and again received a voucher to use in the bar plus a free boat trip where we snorkelled with turtles and stingray. A great day spent here.

There is paddle boarding, snorkelling and canoeing on site which is all included in the price. The location is perfect for the Garrison racing which we attended and is a great day out. We also walked to many beaches along the south coast area or you can grab a ‘toot toot’ taxi which goes all over the island and only costs about 3 bajan dollars. They are great fun!

All in all we had a fantastic 2 weeks here...the staff and local people make it a fabulous holiday with their fun personalities and infectious smiles. We never came across a single person with attitude or rudeness. Well done Sugar Bay we hope to return one day...missing you already! xxx

Room tip: Do not book rooms above the Umi restaurant if you are an early sleeper. Entertainment finishes at 10pm anyway.
