If we'd visited in summer we'd have been glad of the thick walls to keep out the heat. As it was, in April the inside of this basic, traditional cottage remained wintery cold, even after lighting the open fire and using a gas fire each evening. Only after making a huge fire on our last night that nearly suffocated us were we able to make the place warm. The cottage is reached by a steep and very potholed track which challenges the suspension of your hire car to the limits but you're rewarded by unspoilt, natural environment with traditional terraces blooming with flowers and buzzing with bees. We enjoyed our stay in spite of the cold and had the experience of what it would have been like to live as a Sicilian peasant 50 or more years ago. The owner did all he could to provide information, fire wood, gas, etc. The bedding provided was very aged and somewhat damp and dirty. It wouldn't be much expense to buy a new thick duvet and this would have made our stay much more comfortable.
