La Cascina is one of the two Italian restaurants on the main street running through Gartringen. It has a small beer garden open during the warmer months and specializes in reasonably priced pizza and pasta made by real Italians. At the time of this writing, La Cascina offers discounted pizza (about five euros) on Wednesdays and select pasta specials on Thursdays. The restaurant has a small bar for folks to enjoy a beer or glass of wine while waiting on take-out orders. There is a modest but charming dining area with limited seating, however they do accept reservations. The pizzas are very good, which is the main reason we keep coming back. The pasta dishes are amply portioned but vary in quality. My family enjoys the spinach and gorgonzola tagliatelle as well as the penne with salmon in cream sauce. On the other hand, the lasagna and bolognese dishes are made with hachfliesch and have a spammier flavor than we are accustomed to. I won't say the meat dishes are bad, but I can't recommend them. The salads are also a bit of a dissapointment compared to the small salads the other local restaurants serve. La Cascina's strong points are the quick and friendly service, the low prices, take-out convenience, and the consistency and quality of the pizza. For fast take-out, it's about twenty minutes from the time you order until you're out the door. If you're looking for personal service and good inexpensive food, this hits the mark. For fine Italian cuisine at higher prices, look down the street at the other Italian restaurant.
