The Macao Museum merits an hour or so of tourists time.... it is not big but well explains the history of Macau, its people and its culture. You will get a glimpse of the old Macau, the old Macau unspoilt by casinos and high end residential developments for mainlanders. There are also temporary exhibits, e.g. on traditional Macau handicrafts.... well worth the 20 Patacas entrance.

It's nice to visit Macau and be reminded it's a historic city with a colonial past, not just a gambling town and SAR. Macau has a special place in my heart. I used to visit my grandparents during the summer holidays and this museum reminds me of the old Macau.

The exhibits on the manufacturing of fire crackers were particularly interesting because I used to play with fire crackers at every opportunity as a kid.

The entry price is very reasonable and it takes about 1 hour for a casual visit.

For me Macau, is not just the place where "East meets West" or where China met the Portuguese. It is where the Chinese Empire met the Portuguese Empire - where people from Portuguese India, Sri Lanka, Japan, Mozambique and the Atlantic met people from the Philippines and Southeast Asia as well as all of China. Loved the museum, but felt the significance of Macau to East Asia was lost and the existence of a specifically Macanese culture was very much downplayed.

This is a good, smallish museum which explains the history of Macau, it's people and cultures. The street of Macau houses was particularly interesting.

Very well put together museum. Next to the Fort. Nice big exhibits. You learn a lot about Macao history and culture after the visit. We were there on a Tuesday and it was free.

Definitely worth a visit!
