Recently returned from a weeks holiday staying in one of the apartments. The accommodation was clean and comfortable just a few minutes stroll to the main hotel. We went half board, both breakfast and dinner were lovely with plenty of choice and regularly replenished. The staff were friendly and helpful. The surroundings are beautiful and the pool area was the perfect place to relax and enjoy the view and sunshine. We're already looking for availability for our next holiday!!

I've really had to think hard about the rating on this hotel. Most things lovely and some not so great, but mainly, not the hotels fault....
Firstly we arrived late, about 10pm for our 2 week stay and went to reception dragging 4 cases. We were checked in promptly and given 2 key cards for room 222 and a photocopy of a map of area, being told to walk across marina. Well there are so many streets and pathways, we wandered for 20 mins or so until a lovely Irish couple saw us wandering and asked if we need help. Explained and told them our room number and thankfully they were staying near us so showed us to aprtment.
Went up the stairs and couldn't believe, neither of the key cards worked. It was getting on for 11pm by now and we were exhaused. My partner went all the way back to reception which was quite a trek and a man came back with him and used the master key card, after trying again, both our cards. Said we must go to reception in morning and get cards sorted, which we did.
I had sent 3 emails to hotel asking for a ground floor large terrace or 1st floor with a large balcony. We were really disappointed to find our room, 222, has the smallest balcony ever. Couldn't really fit 2 chairs and defintely no table, which hotel had put by the window inside lounge area! The balcony was also completely overgrown.
By this time too tired, so waited until the morning and told reception we were not happy to stay in that room. The manager was there too and immediately they had a discussion and said we would be moved to room 193. It was just around the corner from where we were. It was a lovely toom. Had a massive terrace that overlooked a lovely court style garden, huge lounge & bedroom. Bathroom with bath & shower, hairdryer and lots of toiletries, including a large dispenser in bath with shower gel.
Slippers and dressing gowns also provided. Kitchen had everything possible except a toaster, not that we were bothered. Safe and wi-fi free too. TV, plenty of cupbaords & drawers & most importantly aircon.
Unpacked and made our way to the main pool, which is back in main hotel area (there is another pool, we didn't use, but that is used by anyone, not just Hotel/apartment Mogan guests, I gather) which you access with the key card. Towels are free at reception or in the white units near the restaraunt, which the male lifeguard keeps stocked. Lovely, large, fluffy towels too!
The pool area is beautiful and apart from the last 3 days, we didn't have any problem getting a sunbed. Green Astro turf surrounding pool area and pool and everywhere spotless. Balonise beds (extra charge) if wanted a bit of luxury! Also roof garden/terrace with showers which has the most beautiful flowers, and sunbeds provided up there too. There are steps going into the sea and this was where there was a HUGE problem. My partner & I went in to swim for a couple of days and then another guest who just arrived, came to look at the steps and as I was getting out of the water, called the life guard and pointed out that there was raw sewage floating in the water..YUK, I felt sick. At first there was a Brown sludgy film and then bits of Poo floating amongst it! I never went in the sea again, but I did spend some of my time going down the steps to look at the different coloured crabs on the rocks or the pretty coloured fish and could see over the days the sewage got worse. The beach must be terrible if it's like it at the hotel! The lifeguard tried to say initially, the festival was on & they throw flowers into the water, but that was not the case. Yes there were some brown dead flowers, but what was also in the water was not pleasant. Many guests were talking about it over the 2 weeks. Terrible really, but what could the hotel do? Maybe should close the step area down, until it's fixed as it's clearly a health hazzard...
This would account for the awful smell going over the bridge to get to the restaraunts in the beach front area. Took your breath away......

We ate in the hotel a couple of times for lunch, not fantastic. Pizza was probably one of the worse ever. However the breakfast was exceptional. Everything you could possibly want was there. Freshly squeezed orange too. Lovely coffees, hot/cold food. Couldn't be faulted.
Overall, the hotel facilities were fabulous and the staff were very, very helpful and friendly.
The female lifeguard was so hard working. Always acknowledged guests with a smile & hello. She took 5 trips up all the stairs to the top roof terrace, to get sunbeds for people as the pool area was so busy. She was only a small little girl, yet never complained. Really lovely. Even got a scrubbing brush and went into the sea down the steps to scrub them to get rid of the Green algae She was so much better than the male pool attendant who didn't seem to want to put himself out for anyone unless he knew them. Never acknowledged or smiled at me once during our 2 weeks.
Overall I couldn't really find much fault with this hotel. It was peaceful and relaxing and we had 2 weeks of glorious sunshine.
They need to find out why/where this sewage problem is coming from. Could be the boats in marina or something else. I feel sorry for the hotel as the steps to the sea is a big plus for them in attracting guests.
We wouldn't go back to Puerto Mogan for a holiday though. There are literally loads of restaurants (Zona Verde steaks by bus station, Blue Marlin & Irish Tavern were our favourites), but there are no nice bars to sit outside. Only one we found was Tapas Tapas, just over bridge, but that overlooked a kiddies playground so not relaxing. Also that part of Mogan had a terrible smell!

Room Tip: Ask for a large terrace or large balcony. Probably better to call hotel as they don't respond very well to emails.

This hotel is very good. The food and accommodation is very good and most importantly, the staff are very very welcoming, helpful and look after your every need.
However, it is a victim of its own success. The hotel owns and lets out apartments situated around the port area, and depending upon the package, the occupants have use of the hotels facilities. This make pool use difficult unless you get there no later than 0900. Any towels put down and not used are removed (Good) but this does not stop the more determined holiday maker.

Room Tip: Room 230, has no balcony and is over the restaurant with a kitchen fan out side the window. Open window lets cooking smells in.

Just got back from this hotel and had a wonderful relaxing time. We never left the resort as it had everything we needed for a quite chill out week. Rooms all have a view of the beach, sea or harbour. Food was excellent everyday, best breakfast ever, even offers buck fizz. Salmon, steak, paella, make your own salads on evening menu. No problems getting a sunbed. Bali beds for an extra fee come with bottle of cava, fruit and afternoon tea all on the edge of the rocks looking out at the sea. Steps from the pool area going right into the sea with private swimming area. A spa also available. This a lovely hotel and resort if you are looking for somewhere quite and relaxing, best for couples, there is no animation round the pool, although a lady did come a couple of times for swim aerobics and no evening entertainment, but you can walk into the town if you want a lively evening, all just a stones throw walk. The beach has all the water sports you could want, and lots of trips available from the harbour right outside the front entrance. The ferries pull in every half hour right outside the hotel and you have access to all the other ports in the area, buses and taxis just a short walk to access the island. You can book apartments that are linked to the hotel and then have access to the pool and restaurant on H/B basis and this would be better if you have young children. I can't praise this hotel enough and we will definitely be going back again when we need a relaxing holiday.
