The hotel is by Lake Maggiore, if you have an opportunity to have a room with 'lake view', then you will not be disappointed.

The staff are very friendly and the grounds are kept in good condition, we had tea and coffee with other family members on the patio by the lake ( we were all there attending a family wedding).

The rooms are cleaned in the morning and readied for evening, which is a nice touch !

Breakfast is traditional European, Italian style and a wide variety! You can order eggs etc at eggtra cost! ( sorry just could not resist! ). The Italian fare is nice.

If you want to keep cost down, at lunch time there is a small cafe where the yachts are moored. Or a shop two mins away where you can buy fruits, cooked meats and drinks. Restaurant Belvedere nearby is ok, but small portions for what you pay!

The meals at Sole di Ranco is very expensive and I don't think it has the ambience and for adults expect to pay on average €90 to €100 euros per person.

We preferred travelling locally to try the local fare, Angera ( an-jay ra) has some good restaurants and reasonably priced between (££- £££) suggest;
Osteria Vecchia Capronno
Pzza Matteotti
17 Capronno di Angera,
Angera Italy
Tel: +390331957313 ( c/c Vincenzo)
A lovely family run restaurant

Another local favourite is;
Osteria Melograno
Via Camillo Benso Conte di Cavour 13
21021 Angera

If you want to relax, then this hotel and this part of the world, comes highly recommended!

While the hotel is a decent (however expensive) place, we felt like the restaurant must be way past it's best times.

Only after eating there we learned that the Sole di Ranco once upon a time must have had a Michelin Star, otherwise we wouldn't have guessed that. The only reminder of that are the still very high prices. Quick breakdown of our experience:

- we had a table reserved the night when some large fireworks were planned on Ranco. The restaurant was busy but the crowd still seemed manageable amid the amount of service personnel. Nevertheless we had to wait about half an hour to get seated.
- once seated it took another hour until we were able to place an order (food) and 15-20 more minutes (wine)
- wine list is full of overaged and expensive wines, the one we found after a time consuming search was however fairly priced and of good quality
- we ordered one "Menu Ranco" (50 euros), which after all was ok in terms of the starter and the main dish, although the risotto was way too much and the fish came without a noticeable side. The dessert was really not great but also very voluminous.
- the other dishes (broccoli with goat cheese; beef filet with potatoes) were not convincing, though here the dessert (chocolate variation) was very good
- amuse bouche and "pre-dessert" as well as coffee and Prosecco were very nice

Staff tried really hard most of the time but was completely overwhelmed. At the end we ended up pouring the rest of the wine ourselves getting it from the cooler 6 feet from the table. Fireworks were great so this saved the evening in the end.

Would we recommend going to the Sole? At this price quality ratio certainly not. Try harder, seems like you got the potential (or used to have it, we can't judge that one).

Thanks for your review. The evening of fireworks the restaurant is full and we tried to answer everyone's needs, especially because the dinner is over within 23 o' clock. In this evening a little bit of delay is legitimate, but we are sorry if you are not satisfied.
We hope to meet you on another occasion to demonstrate our validity.
Regards.

It offers prime location with the views onto the lake. Except you might be seated in a room looking at the wall without an option of lake view. Not from the garden, not from the room even if you place request when reservation is done 2 weeks before. Restaurant mixed up also number of quests and they made us feel very unwelcome. Table was ready over one hour later than the requested booking. Waiters were disorganised and kept forgetting our order repeatedly. Not worth high bill that we got at the end of this highly unsuccessful horrible evening.

We came to celebrate important event in our family life. We were not able to walk out but we certainly have no plans to return there anytime soon. They have ruined it.

We ate here for my partners birthday and the meal and restaurant didn't disappoint. The food was brilliant with very little to criticise and we were absolutely stuffed by the time we'd finished our meal. I'd asked the waitress for advice on the wine and was pleasantly surprised that we were recommended one of the most reasonably priced Barolos on the menu - which was delicious. Unfortunately I was driving so could only enjoy a glass!

We were lucky with the weather as it was early October and were able to sit outside and enjoy a pleasant view in quiet surroundings. The service was the typical Michelin full service with the waiter hilariously sprinting over any time I went to pour a little more wine myself. Certainly not pretentious though and the service was genuine and with a smile.

I'd happily return if I get the chance!

Going for lunch on a perfect spring day, the patio had an amazing view over the lake. Service was attentive and efficient and friendly, without being intrusive.

The prices are as stratospheric as the views, but the food is absolutely delicious, beautifully presented, with attention to detail in all manners.

Very old school (chauvinistic), with the male (me) presented with a menu that has prices, and the female (wife) no prices, despite the fact that my wife was the one paying for dinner today!
