“Great staff and atmosphere”
Reviewed 25 November 2011

The Cuan in Strangford is a small B & B and eating establishment with quality fresh fish served daily. The week-end specials are great as is the roast of the day. We have eaten here a lot and found the food to be excellent. You may have to wait a little but it is always freshly cooked.
There are three eating areas, the bar, the lounge and the dining room. All serve the same food.
The food we found to be very good.

The Cuan is 200 years old so everything is casual. The staff is excellent and friendly, just ask for Damian, Sean or Dale. They too have been there a long time so they know how everything works.
We have both stayed here and eaten here. We would recommend it.

This is just the place to go if you are looking for a warm, friendly atmosphere, great food, lovely rooms and good craic. The staff are second to none, absolutely wonderful people who go out of their way to make you feel welcome and at home. I went to The Cuan for a relaxing break and came home completely refreshed and rejuvenated. There are so many places to explore in and around Strangford Village; every day is like an adventure. I will definitely be going back to The Cuan and I’ll be bringing friends and family to meet all of the lovely people who work there. Fantastic!

Peter and Caroline went out of their way to help us enjoy our short stay in this atmospheric inn. The food was plentiful and tasty. The Northern Irish know how to do great meals! We had haddock for breakfast and it to be recommended. During the day we walked around nearby Castle Ward, a National Trust property. The autumn colours and the lough and gardens were sheer pleasure. We hope to return sometime.

Dear nandi2434
Thanks for a wonderful review. We were delighted to learn that you got so much pleasure out of The Cuan and Strangford at this delightful time of year. The haddock that you enjoyed is a Gold Award Winning product at The Great Taste Awards in London on 3 successive years, it is smoked locally be our fish supplier of the past 20 years!
Do come for some more.

Living not too far from here but always loving the surrounding castleward area as a child, I decided to stay with my partner for one nights break with breakfast and dinner package. From the moment we arrived we were treated like old time friends and the lovely owner Caroline showed us to our room. The room was small but suited all our needs perfectly and we found it very quiet at night even though we stayed on a saturday and were over looking the main square.
I enjoyed the evening meal and also the freshly cooked breakfast it was very tasty and for a one night trip. The only bad point I have is our room was directly above the main entrance door and the light outside was directly below our window so the room was super bright, a blackout blind wouls be needed to darken the room. Also the smokers stood out here at the front and the smoke travelled up to our room from outside so the window could not be opened and it was very warm outside. This did not dampen our stay but is a pointer incase someone else is bothered by this.

Room Tip: If you like a dark room at night stay away from the first room directly when you go upstairs to your...

Dear Missylis
Many thanks for your wonderfully detailed feedback, we were delighted to hear that you had a great time. It is helpful to learn about the possibility of cigarette smoke rising to enter the room we will do what we can to rectify this. We look forward to seeing you again.
